I am currently training for a HIM in September. I usually do three workouts per sport every week plus the occasional brick.
I must travel on business for a week at a time to a place where I can only run. Should I forget about swimming and riding and try to improve my running? I can't lose the idea that I will lose all my fitness for everything else.
Any ideas?

Hello,
I travel 3-4 days per week and managed to complete my 2 bikes and 2 swims when training for IM AZ by 1) taking my bike with me and a trainer if possible, 2) 24 hour fitness/golds, etc. have spin classes that last an hour and they usually have a pool, 3) check with local bike shops in the areas you travel, as they may have classes, group rides, and let you borrow a bike, 4) and the indoor trainer at home will be a necissity if you need to get a quick spin in before you leave for a trip. I hope that helps.

Finishing the race is the only thing that validates the cause.

If it's only the occasional week is there any way to make that week a "recovery" week training-wise in your program? Lessens the guilt and makes it a bit easier...

I have also used a swim tether to at least get me some swim movement in the bathtub sized hotel pools. It isn't exactly the same as swimming in a real pool, but it is definitely a workout.

Depending on where you are going, you could also find a tri club in the area that you could link up with for some ideas on pools or bike rentals. They may even invite you along on some group workouts.

I find "swimmersguide" to be very helpful when I am out of town and looking for a pool.

Structure your training so the travel week is a bike recovery week and focus on your run. You can probably find a pool. And as textri wrote, national chain gyms have spin classes and pools that are better than sitting at the hotel bar.

Thank you all.
I can't take my bike and trainer on a ten hour flight, so I'll do a bike recovery week and focus on my run. I´ve been there before and hotel swimming pools, besides being as big as bathtubs, are usually too hot for swimming.
Since running is my weakest sport, I will take advantage of this to (finally) come back stronger. Maybe the next time I will not bonk on the run. HA HA.

I travel every other week, and can't bring the bike. I've been successful alternating weeks of run focus/bike focus. When I can't find a pool I use strech cords attached to paddles for a weight workout.

As bike substitue workouts I'll do the eliptical in the hotel gym on a high resistance, or for straight up power you can sprint up the stairwells in your hotel. I know it's not like riding your bike, but I actually enjoy the variety.
