HR Monitors
My 2 cents:
I used to have the Polar 720 series for running and biking, and when it died after 2 1/2 years (out of warranty) I was mad about how much $$ it was to replace the system so I decided to go with separate bike computer and HRM. I have found that the useful life for the Polar products is only a couple of years if you train a lot, and I now buy their cheaper HRMs and expect to replace them often. I got a used powertap for the bike.
Depending on your budget, you could go with the popular Garmin 205/305 watches. I have one and love it. REI has had them on sale a couple times over the last few months for about $160. The cadence monitor is about another $50. I am not to up to date on anything from Polar so I can't give you any advice on that front. Good luck with your search.
+1 on the Forerunner. Really like it.
To tri or not to tri - that's not a question at all!
I would also suggest a Garmin, as it works great for the bike and run. However, you can't swim with it normally, unless you stick it in your pocket or in your swim cap or something. So, it might not be the answer for you if you're looking for something that will work in the swim too.

Here's what I use:
Cheapo bike unit (came with the bike), has cadence also.
I own a Polar 720i, with a Power Sensor, and had to replace the watch last year, it died a horrible death...
I also own a ForeRunner 301?, just a GPS unit, but I use it as a backup to the Polar and the speedometer on the bike, and to figure out how far I've run.
I record my data from the Polar, and supplement it with further data from the Garmin or the speedometer as needed.
During racing, I use a single pickup for the Polar on the front wheel, and don't capture power or cadence. I use the speedometer to monitor the speed and cadence during races, and leave the Garmin at home.

I currently have a Polar F11 and a CS200cad on my bike...... I want to get a new HR that can give me different HR target zones and be able to use it for both running and biking. I was looking to get the S625x but the speed & cadence sensors for the CS200cad are not compatible with the S625x (according to polar, I have not tested yet) also the RS800 caught my eye...
My goal is to use just one piece of equipment for everything...but that will be a little hard... Any suggestions?? Thanks
