Hey guys,

I'm new to the forums, but not new to endurance training (8 yrs, marathons, half marathons, and triathlons)

I've been thinking about taking Optygen by First endurance.
any thoughts?

Also, would it be alright to stack with e-caps "race day boost" for a big race?

Welcome to trifuel!!

I don't use optygen so I can't comment on that.

I do build up my electrolytes before the race by drinking gatorade the day before and adding a little salt to my foods and taking thermolyte (electrolyte) tabs the night before and the mornning of the race especially if it is going to be warm.

Optygen is an herbal, so it should be fine to mix with just about anything. You do have to use it for quite a while for it to work, though.

I used it once before. It was ok. So far the best product I have found is Millennium Sports Cordygen5. Of course supplements will only assist you about 10% assuming your diet and training are in check. At least that is just my opinion.

right, i've always believed in hardwork first, then supplements. I just wanted to see if this would give me the little boost i need.

What does "assist you about 10%" mean? Do you go 10% faster?

I don't know if faster is the best term. I spent many years weight lifting and used legal supplements. They always seem to help about 10%. That was the basis of that comment.

I do think it makes me faster but only because it helps with the level of training and recovery. Don’t expect to take this stuff for the first time on race day and see results. Keep in mind people respond to supplements in different ways. So you really have to test it out over the long haul. It is also best to cycle the stuff. You can also waste a lot of money and time on this stuff with little or no results. I do have a regular list of supplements that a generally cycle though. I can tell the difference when I am on nothing vs taking something. But the difference isn't huge. Again be forewarned that you can quickly waste lots of $$$ on supplements.

I have only used one bottle and don’t have any plans to go back to Optygen this season, so I don’t have any experience to answer your question.

Do the loading phase like it says. I cycle on and off. The more cycles you do, the better off you'll be. I like to line the cycles up with my training. I'll load going into a hard a week and use it for several weeks of hard training before stopping for a little while during easier weeks. I don't think First Endurance said to do that, but it's been working well for me....my coach cycles it, too, and says it's been doing well for him.

The original Optygen had the cycling - the OptygenHP does not. Didn't see an explanation as to why on their site. Still considering trying it...
