you do a real hard brick and you can't remember your mileage on the bike? I can usually remember the run, and sometimes the time on the bike, but almost never the whole workout. Maybe I need better tools (like a pen and paper)

What stuff drives you nuts about training/tris? (excluding Active.com, I think that one is unanimous ;) )

You could use a watch to time the whole thing. And you could always use sanoodi to figure out the mileage on the bike.

My bike computer records distance and time as well.

for something that is good for you the side effects suck.

do a great workout out and you smell like a dead water buffalo, your clothes are soaked with stinky sweat, and you pass out by 8pm none of which is particularly attractive

Early morning training.
I am used to it now but I get up early to train so I don't get sidetracked later.

Interval training. 30/30's on the bike to be specific. 30 seconds on then 30 seconds off. Repeat 25 times. Then pass out.

Garmin takes care of logging my miles and times. When it comes to logging swim training, I may as well toss 2 darts at a board. One for laps, and one for time. I need to buy one of those underwater lap counter things.

I thought about it, but then I know I would always wonder, "did I press it that last lap?"

I would suggest getting one of the $30 Ironman watches at Walmart (or Target or Amazon or wherever). I love mine. I wear it every day as a normal watch, and you just start the stopwatch and hit the big button on the front to start a new lap. It keeps track of lap times, and it shows what lap you're on in big numbers on the face. For some it might mess up their rhythm to be pushing buttons while you swim, but I love it.

I used to do this whole thing with rubber bands on my wrists. Every lap, I would move one from one wrist to the other. I had 5 rubber bands, so every time I switched hands, it was another 5 laps. Don't ask me how I knew whether I was at 25 or 35 laps though, because I pretty much guessed.

Things i hate:
-Getting my butt handed to me in the pool by pretty much everyone (time for a swim coach!)
-Stop lights
-Vehicles that give you just enough room when the other lane is open
-Dogs with a rolled down window, those bastards don't bark until the truck is right next to you, scares the shit out of me
-Forgetting to go #2 before going on a run and getting 3 miles from the nearest bathroom when the gut bomb hits
-Advice from people with little knowledge of fitness or endurance sports for that matter (multiple conversations with mother-in-law come to mind).
-When people schedule meetings early in the morning or during lunch and completely screw my workouts up

I also have the $30 Ironman watch and never thought to use it as a lap counter, great idea ChunkyB. I'm also waiting to see if my wife realizes that all of the nice watches she's gotten me for gifts have been collecting dust b/c I'm always wearing the Ironman watch no matter what the occassion.

I don't think if Mr Miyagi was performing the 'Wax on, Waxoff' on the 'undercarriage' it would be as funny. ;-P

and cars and trucks that don't slow down when they pass on the gravel roads - kicking up rocks and dust. hey, thanks.

this is probably pretty arrogant, but i hate when i've been running for an hour and a half out in bufu and get back to where most people are running near town. i just want to yell at the people passing me "how fast will you be going in 12 miles?"

i also hate/love when i see someone in the pool wearing an ironman swim cap. only because i want one, so so bad.

A great swim and bike followed by a slow start to the run, which is my MO. Eventually I can get it into gear, but not before I get passed by a dozen or more competitors. Gotta work on that T2 brick more. Always a challenge and adventure.

Something I do ahead of time has been to use http://www.mapmyride.com to set my route ahead of time so I know the distance already. If you havent used it check the site out. Great tool and the 'follow roads' option gets you pretty close to accurate against your bike computer.

Try using the alphabet to keep track of laps.
Think of an ex whose name begins with that letter for the whole lap, then move on to the next letter, as in:

A is for Anne, B is for Barbara, C is for Catherine, etc.

If you lack an extensive list of actual experiences. *cough* you may substitute actresses or pop stars you'd like to sleep with, or, something.

A is for Aguilera, B is for Britney, C is for Celine, D is for Diana, etc.

Makes the w/o go faster and keeping track is easy too.

What I hate is drivers passing me, then pulling in front and slowing down to make a right turn. They just don't appreciate how fast cyclists are going.

and having a really good fast training ride.. then getting a flat 2k from home!

I find unexpected soreness/stiffness very frustrating. Joint pain the day after a brick is the worst because I don't necessarily know which discipline caused it and makes it difficult to know which one (or both) to back off of. Or on days when you push a workout just a LITTLE too hard and end up paying for it for days.

+1 on cars speeding up to pass and then making a right hand turn in front of you, had someone do that to me going downhill +30 mph, very luck to be alive.

Cars and big trucks honking right when they are passing(had an 18 wheeler do this to me going under an overpass, I nearly #$%! myself),

Getting blown away on the second half of a long run by my wife after I set the pace for the first half(really messes with my head, she’s still too fast for me)

Waking up and realizing that I still have another 5 weeks until my first race, I am getting the itch, can’t take the waiting.

Checking the trifuel forum at work and someone creeps up on my cubicle and I have to scramble to clear my computer screen.

I have to agree...
This has happened to me two times that really stand out:

1. During my first tri earlier this year some car passed me only to slow down as it approached the controlled intersection, at which point I went flying back past the car, cutting it off to make my right hand turn right in front of the cop controlling the intersection. It didn't cause much of a problem, but it was really annoying.

2. A trash truck went flying past on a blind turn only to come to a complete stop to make a pickup, causing me to hit the breaks and eventually fall over (I was still learning clipless at the time).

I would agree with most everything above. I just came off of 3 weeks of open water swim training and had to go back to the pool. I felt like a fish in a bowl. I hate it when you are in the pool minding your own business and then a "bobber" comes in lathered up in lotion or nasty old man/woman perfume and the smell gags you as you swim by. But you know what...I LOVE THIS SPORT!!

1. When you get stuck behind a car and you cant pass them.
2. When a car sits behind you, tailgating, when they could have easily passed you.
3. Your bike ran fine yesterday, but now makes some sort of funny sound.
4. You wear a time splitting watch during your tri only to forget to start it when you hit the water and each subsequent time you transition.
5. When you say triathlon and the only thing that pops into peoples mind is ironman. Dude, not everyone is an ironman.
6. Last but not least, you cant figure out how to spend your time on a rest day and the only thing that comes to mind is,"Hey, i could go for a bike ride!".
