Well, just got off the IM page and registered for CDA. My hands are still shaking with excitement as this will be my first IM. In fact, I will still be mostly a beginner. I feel lucky to be going and having finished registration sure is motivation to prepare. So excited about the adventure ahead...Anyone else headed there next year? OMG, I actually signed up....

So there were spots left open for online registration? That's good news. I was afraid getting into all domestic Ironmans was going to become like Canada where you have to be on site the day after. Now you have 365 (or so) days to train for it. Good luck. I hope you aren't treated to 59 degree water next year. That sounded painful.

Good luck!! Due to budget cuts I might skip a lot of big races next year.

Nothing to it, but to do it

No, I just went out to check it out for fun---still open. I have decided to try and get in to Arizona. No way do I want to train through another cold rainy winter like this last year (and the year before). Just last week when we went out it was only 48 degrees, my toes never warmed up the entire ride. Its really hard to be ready this early here.
Good luck!

Good luck! I'll be joining you if you do it again in 2010.

Thanks for the support. I'll be at New Orleans 70.3 in April 09 as well, if anyone is going there. Training will be hard but fun, I think. Those are famous last words, I'm sure. Let me know if you're gonna be there too...

Houston should be good for training as it is relatively warm all year, and especially in the summer ;)...

You will do great--I suppose I am just jaded now after our long drawn out rainy/cold winter. I have a HIM this next weekend where the water is in the low 50's still. We have only had a handfull of days into the 70's so far this year. I just don't think I can bring myslef to do 100+ mile rides in March/April when it is still so icky out. Commuting to and from work is one thing, that is totally different. You are in a much better training location, and will love it. Beautiful course.
I did notice Ironman France opens for registration in about an hour--would do that but same training problem---GRRRRRR

I am in for CDA 09. No problems training in the Spring in Austin.

Finishing the race is the only thing that validates the cause.

I'm going to encourage you to do the right thing...training won't be easy, but the journey to IM is going to yield the payoff for me. I'm excited! If you don't get good training in, then it's not worth it, IMHO.

I think it is getting worse but I don't think we've come that far yet. I saw quite a few people in line yesterday but there wasn't enough to fill the entire race. As of right now, it appears you can STILL register through (Chunky's favorite) Active.com

Registration yesterday was pretty easy. Not sure how many spots there were, but I registered at about 12:08 PM PDT. It opened at 12:00, so I had to fight for 8 minutes to get the spot. Not too bad. Everyone had warned me to fly-in and get the ticket. I might have lucked out, but I sure saved 600 dollars on the airfare!

Tropical rainforest is about the weather in CDA :)....oh wait....I was way off! Guess I'll have to take a trip somewhere cold for "vacation" this year and do some training there too...

I was there for my first one this last weekend, and it was spectacular. Coeur d'Alene is such a beautiful town. I'll be there next year supporting my wife who is also a triathlete, but hadn't been planning on doing an Ironman, and got caught up in the excitement of the event. We were able to register that tuesday, but it looks like they're all booked by now.

The swim wasn't as bad as everyone was making it sound. Within 5 minutes it just felt like a comfortable, nice swim. They allowed booties, which I wore just to see if I like it better (seemed about the same), but other than that, it was just a coldish swim.

TylerTCF, you won't be disappointed. Also, you probably want to start looking for somewhere to stay fairly soon.
