I have now inadvertently snipped through sensor cables on not one, but two bike computers. [smacks forehead]

Sigh. Topeak sent me a replacement on the one for free, even though I told them it was my fault.

I cut the cadence cable on the other one. Fortunately I can still get mph, distance all that.

Tried to splice it with no luck. REI said they could splice it.

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...

If the mechanic at your LBS is as mechanically inclined as the one at mine, he should have no problem making it work again. A few bucks and it should be repaired, mounted, and ready to go. Good luck to yah!

Snipped? Like you have scissors or wire cutters or something? I'm trying to figure out what maintenance you are doing on your bike that requires cutting anything. Think about investing in wireless.

Not bike maintenance, cutting the excess cable tie bits off - and inadvertently getting the sensor cable caught as well.

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...

You can pick up a fine wireless for $20! Why folks still use the cabled kind I don't know...The bike looks so much cleaner without all those bits everywhere.

when i know i'm not riding for a few days i'll let some air out, I just always have... this time I decided to go for a spontaneous spin at night. the rest is history.

when I 1st got my bike and was just learning how to fill the tires, I kept pulling on the air pump and breaking off the little thingy that's attached to the tube. I went back to the shop like 4-5 times in a 2 week period...I could've sworn I heard the guys there snickering about my stupidity

The bike may be cleaner without the wires, but there is a limit to the distance from the computer to the sensor. Not usually a problem for the speed sensor, especially if you put it on the fork, but my Polar cadence sensor on my tri bike can't get close enough to read. Have to mount it on the chain stays due to the airfoil down tube, and even right at the BB, I can't seem to get a signal. And with a rear wheel cutout, there's no possibility of mounting on the down tube.

I'm actually considering a Cateye Astrale 8 so I can monitor cadence in races, as I don't use heart rate. Plus you can mount the speed sensor on the rear wheel, thus cleaning up the fork as well. A computer wire is no different than your shift or brake cable as far as aesthetics goes. Merely an integral part of your component package.

+1
i have wireless (Polar, too) and it will occasionally drop cadence (and more rarely, speed)

as an architect, i do agree with the cleaner look...but i'm not going to hang new equipment on the bike if it doesn't do its job...next computer will be wired unless I hear good things about a more recent wireless computer.

I still don't understand the title of this thread. Is that some pop culture reference that I don't know, or what? I mean, you're calling someone else a dumba$$, or perhaps all of us, but you're the one who snipped through your computer cables twice.

Hmmm. I thought it was more of an "I'm Rick James....." type of thing.

The title 'I am groovyjen...Dumba$$' seems like an admission to me ;-)
