I have a simple A5 Polar HRM that is out of warranty. the screen is missing part of the LED so although the unit works I can't read the heartrate. I have an SRM on my bike, so can get heartrate when I bike but not now while I am running. I want to get a HRM with GPS that gives distance +/- pace that I can use while running and that my husband can also use on his bike for speed, distance, mapping and altitude change. Is there anything out there that an be used for running and biking? Can you use a Forerunner 305 on the bike?

Yes, I use my forerunner 305 on the bike. It actually has a nifty multisport mode that you can use for races too. At any rate, they also sell a cadence/speed sensor, so you can have cadence, and also speed if you happen to be training indoors. I also have the nifty bike mount/wrist quick release thing, so you can use it on the bike and run pretty seamlessly. You can also just tie a washcloth around your handlebars and use the normal wrist strap. I hope this answers your question.

Ya the 305 is made for both the bike and run.
There is a cadence/speed accessory that you would want for the bike.
There is also a foot pod for run cadence.
With those accessories - then able to function either indoors on trainer or treadmill and outdoors.
Lots of threads here on the benefits of the 305. I have one and it works great.

Thanks. This is really helpful. Would there be any reason to go with a Polar GPS rather than a Garmin? eg Polar RS800d +G3?
