Has anyone done this race before and if so, what are your thoughts on the course?

Thanks

You swim in Lake Michigan with the current, so you either start at Jean Klock Park or swim to it in one straight shot. It's a beautiful course that's mostly flat with a few decent rollers on the ride as well, maybe three actual hills, I think there's one right off the bat coming out of T1, then another around mile 25 or 30, then one more near the end, and the rest is pretty moderate. You go through blueberry country, so the scenery is really Norman Rockwell in a lot of places. The run has changed since I did the race, but from what I hear it's still pretty flat with the exception of maybe one hill. Now it also has a few parts that are trail, and there's a lot more shade throughout. The after race stuff is OK, usually Pizza Hut since they're a sponsor, bagels, energy bars and Gatorade. You can't beat the beach right there afterwards though, take the family and a picnic -- see you there this year!

I did it last year. It was my first HIM and a great race, I would recommend it to anyone doing their first half ironman. Plenty of aid stations, and the lake/beach was great to cool down in after the race.

Anyone remember what the water temps were like when they did it? I did the firecracker tri as my first race. Sprint at the same starting point. The water was about 55* and we all pretty much wanted to die by the time we got out of it. Does it get pretty warm by august or should i start mentally preparing for this problem now?

I wore a sleeveless wetsuit for the race and didn't have any problems with the temperature.

The only problem I had with the swim was that they don't let you jump off the pier to start the swim anymore. At least last year, anyway.
