Getting the wetsuit off over the timing chip thingy...

So, I bought a wetsuit for my first OLY which is this Sat. (6/21). I have practiced getting the wetsuit on and off (and on and off and so on and so on). Hardest part: getting the wetsuit off at the ankles. Bought the body glide --works great. But then I remembered the timing chip and strap. I know its not the big, but will it cause any problems in removing the wetsuit? Any thoughts/tips? Or is this a nonissue? Thanks.

Just make sure the chip and strap are under the wetsuit at the ankle... Some folks try to put it on OVER the suit, so when they pull off the suit, the strap goes flying and is nowhere to be found!
Have a great race!

Ditto,

Put on your wetsuit then rollup the leg a little and then strap on your chip, then roll the leg back down over it.

Dang, now that's an idea... I usually just put it on as comfy-tight as possible around my ankle with the added security of a safety pin so I can wrench on the wetsuit without worry.

Weary is the path that does not challenge.

+1 for under. Saw a few people this Sunday struggling with the chip. My fiance noticed at my first race that it might get stuck taking off the wetsuit so I should put the chip on under it. Amazing how the simple things seem to evade us sometimes :-)

How did the race go? Any luck with the wetsuit and the timing chip?

Race went well. Thanks for asking! I followed everyones' advice and put the wetsuit over the chippy thing and worked like a charm. I also applied liberal amounts of body glide to the ankles and the suit came off without any hitches. For my first OLY and 2nd ever OWS with a wetsuit, my T1 time was a respectable (I think) 1:30. I had a good relaxed swim, good T1, good bike, good T2, and then bonked on the run. Nevertheless, met my three main goals: (1) finish; (2) finish in under 3 hrs (2:59:25); and (3) have a good swim and finish under :30 min (28:00). And, now I know I need to work on my race nutrition and, of course, run more. On to my next OLY!

Thanks again for the helpful advice!

1:30 is a very good T1 time in a wetsuit! Nice work!! You can check that box off.
