Stupid question but I have to ask.
Technically: cleaner wound if you crash your bike, easier for massaging
Realistically: everyone else does

Not fast enough.
Thanks very much just found the other one further down. Since I am married I leave the female decision up to my wife. At this point she just wants things cleaned and tidied up on the chest and back. Good for me I guess.
1. Everyone else does it so it must be the cool thing to do (think High School).
2. The mental aspect before my first tri, if I look like a triathlete I must be a triathlete.
3. The cleaner wound factor.
4. Massage, although I was too busy eating pizza afterwards to get a massage.
And probably in that order, at least from my newbie perspective, I could be wrong
I shaved before I got into triathlon or even cycling...I have a strange hatred of body hair in general. I shave everything except my head and my arms (except when I get too cheap or lazy to keep up with it). And I would shave both if:
1) I didn't look ridiculous bald
2) It didn't require that much more additional work since I already slack often times elsewhere
But a lot of my other reasons are common to those above
I only do it once in awhile
Another interesting article on the subject

I now have to wear a stupid knee brace when running, and I find that a shaved leg is more compfortable under that chaffing neoprene. Although i might allow that it's psychosymatic.
One other reason that only truly hairy people can know... it's hard to put sunscreen on a leg that looks like a Wookie.
Shaving makes it easier to peel the bandaids/duct tape off after a long run.

what do you need duct tape on for a long run, or do I not want to know?

Scroll down to bluebirdbiker's post. I favor bandaids myself.
Thanks chunky. I need remedial linking lessons.
Putting on and removing wetsuits is easier without a lot of hair! Someone else mentioned the sunscreen thing, and it's cooler for me (temperature- wise)
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
Wetsuits - Check
Sunscreen - Double Check I suspect, takes me twice as long as the wife
Cooler - Don't know, may make you think your cooler but don't know the mechanics behind it.
Wounds - Check
I am still thinking about it. Waxing is set now for Friday and that will take care of my back all the way to Sept or so.
Add: drying faster...I can just feel the water wicking away when I get out of the pool after a fresh shave

Why do Triathletes shave? No I don't care about looks, functionally why do you do it and should I go ahead and get the chest and belly waxed (ouch think 40 yr old virgin), when I go for my pre-neighbor hood pool back wax this week.
