My daughter wants to participate in a triathlon, she's eleven. Do any of you know about these? How old kids need to be to participate in kids’ triathlon. I’ve seen add in triathlon magazine and don’t find the issues?

I know the chicago tri kid's tri starts at age 7... That's got to be really exciting!! I did my first swim for a tri for a team when I was 10 or 11.... it was a 750m out and back lake swim with a mass beach start. I bet my parents loved that :-). I have been casually pressuring my family to do tri's the past few years and just last week my little sister (she's 15) called me and said she wanted to do the chicago tri and her friend from school did too... Of course I signed her up right away. Also, my aunt and her sister in law decided to do it. I'm really proud of myself about that. Another perk for inspiring family is that my mom even reimbursed me on the entry fee because that particular tri is now a 'family' thing. :-)
At first my dad was cautious and wouldn't let me do the whole thing before I was 16 even though I wanted to and definitely could have. Last year he wouldn't let me try an olympic until the last tri of the season when he (bike, run - he's been biking (2000 mi/year) and running (1000 mi/year) regularly for the past 30 years) and my sister (a much stronger swimmer than me) teamed up against me and I beat them.... so i'm doing some olympics this year...

Good luck to your daughter! And if I may be as bold as to say so, enjoy your last few years as the faster one... I'm rooting for your daughter by the way :-P
