I just bought 2 pairs of running shoes and a new TRI top. Need new bike shoes very soon (getting the most of my current ones - 4 years!)...may need a new Polar....so before my wife kills me, should I even consider an aero helmet (race 1/2 and full IM)....? And I may buy a skin suit too (got into Hawaii via lottery..yay)....macker

Nothing on your list seems 'must have' other than maybe new shoes if your cycling ones are shot. Aero helmets on age groupers look really silly. That's just me. Instead, take your wife to dinner in Hawaii.

I would agree. A nicer helmet may keep you a bit cooler and have a slight aero advantage but if your shoes go in the HIM you'll have 13.1 miles of blisters and general nastiness. Then again, I come from a running background so I'm always thinking about my feet before anything else.

Thanks guys. I actually have a decent helmet but got an email with a sale on the aero...but since i am not winning any races, did not think the 1 minute it may save me over 112 miles is really necessary....i can take the money and buy my wife a good dinner (nice suggestion), buy some new tires which i need, get the bike shoes..thanks..enjoy the weekend.

Definitely the bike shoes, but I have to disagree with TriSooner. Up here in the frozen Northwest, an aero helmet conveys the signifigant advantage of keeping your ears warm! I wear mine in all cold-weather events, just for that reason, LOL.

Get the dinner, make her happy.

Weary is the path that does not challenge.
