HR doesn't go up
Broken HR monitor?
ah ah nope... :(
Beta blockers (not that I would know anything about that)?
Beta blockers inhibit normal epinephrine-mediated sympathetic actions, but have minimal effect on resting subjects. That is, they reduce the effect of excitement/physical exertion on heart rate and force of contraction, dilation of blood vessels and opening of bronchi, and also reduce tremor and breakdown of glycogen.

In the past, has your HR exceeded 150 and this is just happening now? Or, have you never gone over 150? Although your age would indicated a higher MAX HR, age is not the only indication...
Macker
I know when I'm overtrained my HR will refuse to go above a certain number (typically 165 for me) despite a high level of exertion.
"Whether you think you can or can't, you're right"
Have you been training at all.........
Seriously, I would go with broken HR monitor. Have you tried the manual method, count the number of pulses in 10 seconds and multiply by 6. (25 in 10 secs x 6 = 150bpm), after a hard session.
My max is 192 and I am 40.
The other reason is that you may of have had a stroke and damaged your heart.......now it can't pump as much no more. But I would consult your doctor on that on. :)
I'm 27 and the highest I've seen mine go is 195. I don't try to get it there often, but I'll hit 165 during a normal training session (ie, no intervals/speed work). Manually check your normal rate vs [device you are using to get 150 max assuming its a device].
And btw: what are you using to find this 150 bpm max HR?
I pushed 210 but that was once and I think I just about died, normally max for me is upper 190s, but I do get a wide spread usually over an exercise.

Base 1 (Week 2, 16.5hrs)
Check out my blog!
Hi guys, thanks for all the answers.
I've been doing sports since I was six (football, swimming, running, triathlon) and I started training for the Ironman last October.
I usually do around 14 hours training per week.
I tried with different HR monitors and manually as well, the result is always the same.
Am I ill or something?!?!?!?
Overtrained maybe. How much rest are you taking? Do you have designated rest days?
Yep I train 6 days a week. Usually 2/3 hours a day during the week.
On the weekend long ride and run (sometime also swim) on saturday and long run and bike on sunday.
I've read a lot of stuff on heart rate training, and I've never heard of someone having such a low max HR. When you find out, be sure to let us know.
If you were new to training, I'd tell you to run up a hill that takes a solid 45seconds, then jog back down and do it 2-3 more times. If you're working out 14 hrs/wk, I'm sure you've done your share of hill workouts.
HR and effort have a linear relationship - ie - as effrort increases so should HR - one is not tracking the other there is something not right (HRM etc) Overtraining is one symptom. What is your RPE of the situation at 150bpm? Does it feel easy or hard?
Today I was doing my bike training at the gym and I reached 160bpm. I was pushing hard (it's a standard gym bike with 25 levels, no spinning today :( ) the level was 18 and rpm 80 to 90 (avg speed of 36km/h). I reached a level where I couldn't push more than that.

He's hitting 150 and unable to push his HR higher. That does not indicate his max is 150, because you will generally not be able to reach your max HR unless it is under very special circumstances. Hence why a HR of 180 might seem like a very hard effort even though based on percentages your max could be more like 210 bpm.

Hi guys,
I know this could be a stupid question but I'm wondering why even if I give everything I have during cycling or running my HR reaches maximum 150 bps (i'm 27) and then after a while I can't push anymore because my legs are dead.
Any suggestion?
