Running a 19 min 5k... got passed. The gentlemen was clappity clanking down the street. He smoked me still wearing his bike clip in shoes.

I never saw him after the race, but I assume he just forgot to bring his running shoes and decided to just run it out.

I imagine that couldn't be comfortable. Anyone ever run with clip in bike shoes on? What about barefoot?

I think I'd take my chances barefoot before taking off for a 5k in my bike shoes...those hard soles would be awful on the feet. That's amazing...I think I would have just stopped and conceded victory to him.

Ha, that's pretty funny, this past year at IMC I forgot my race number (rookie) and ran back into the transition area w/ my bikes shoes on... I broke on of my cleats $%# luckily I didn't notice and just thought was the pedal giving me a hard time. Afterward I found that it was cracked right down the middle... dang.

19m 5k... dang, lucky for you he didn't have is running shoes, sounds like hes do it in 15. I hate those people. Damn you mom and dad!

I've seen people running in sandles, there's a crazy man in Las Vegas who bikes and runs in his sandles. aaaand... he still beats me every time. :(

Wow, power to that runner. A quick walk to the mailbox in sandals and I'll get shin-splints.

Don't worry though, I'm sure he felt pretty silly a few minutes later when he was passed by a unbathed hermit wearing tissue boxes.

When I lived in Oklahoma there was a Native American dude who would show up to the local road race series wearing jeans, long sleeve work shirts, Red Wing boots, and run < 20 5ks. Nuts.

Not to make this less awesome, but are you sure he didnt have running spikes on? Maybe he thought it would be an offroad run so he brought CC spikes. Ive done that before myself doing a 5k and ended up running it on pavement making lots of noise. Still a terrible experience and not one i recommend, but better than doing it in bike shoes.

My toe has been really sore lately. The only time it didn't hurt to walk/run on it is when I was walking around the drug store in my biking shoes. Since biking shoes are stiff, my toe doesn't bend. Maybe that's why he was using them, and maybe I should give it a try.

I can barely walk my bike out of the garage in my shoes. The shimano SPD clips are just too large. Now if they are mountain clips I can understand as my mountain shoes cleats are recessed a good bit and I could run in those, but it would be uncomfortable and make one heck of a noise doing so.

In 1989 at the Vancouver Marathon, there was a guy ran the race in a full BC Lions football uniform - including helmet and cleats, he finished last though.

Thank God, I finished ahead of him. That would have been embarrassing.

When I saw that someone added a post to this, I had hopes that the guy with clip ins saw the thread and posted.

I did Carlsbad Triathlon once in socks. I didn't lay everything out the night before and left the shoes at home. (My third tri) It is an hour 1/2 minimum to get to Carlsbad from our house. I told Scott out of the tranistion on the hill, but he couldn't find any for me to use. It was the first time I met my coach coming out of the transition (he is an offical) he was yelling go get your shoes. i had to yell back I don't have any. The waves were awful that year and I would not quit. I finished, but my feet hurt. Lucky it was only a 5K.

Running in bike shoes just sounds dangerous and painful. It would make me double a double take and say WTF?

I've ran 5 miles in socks last year after my deraileur broke during a training ride. It was kind of late and I wasn't about to wake up my friends to pick me up. I wore a hole in the socks. For some wierd reason, I still have them and almost put them on last week.

I'd definitely do it again vs. bike shoes if I forgot my runners.

Sister Madonna Buder is definitely signed up for IMC. She's 78!! I just hope I can still walk by the time I'm that age, much less compete in an IM!
