I have a DVD on POwer Yoga, an hour long and was wondering if what you all thought about yoga as a strength training exercise? I currently lift weights 2x a week, but wanted to get some good stretching in, so I thought about lifting once and yoga once a week.

Suggestion? What are you all's thoughts on this?

Well as I have said before, I do hot yoga (bikram and power), 90 min 4-5 times a week. I have found it to help with strength, flexability and my core andhave lost inches doing it. It is a hard work out but I love it. Ysing your body weight for strength training is under rated in my opinion and it works just as well as regular weights.

I've heard a few triathletes say they don't do weights to get faster, but it helps prevent injuries. I'm trying to do weights once per week, but I skip most weeks. :(

Some of the pro's I see are so cut, it's hard to believe they don't do a fair amount of resistance training. Maybe that's one of the differences between spending 35 hours a week training, and spending 10.

I'd go with the yoga and weight training combo...I feel like in my case, increased flexibility helps with injury prevention more than muscle stability....but both are obviously important
