So I just got into THE NEW YORK MARATHON on my first go at it. This would be my second one , as the first one over flat Miami was a miserable final 6 miles and I was a running pup. Everybody says you have to do NY at least once so here I am with a dilema. I am also signed up for the Miami Man Half Iron the next week. We all know that giving half ass effort in order to save your body for an upcoming event is tough to do. My question is "Is it doable/sane/safe/thinking straight to do both or should I stop this thinking ASAP and defer one qucker than the other ASAP."

Being somewhat new to triathlons (did sprints and two olys last season). I may not be the best to comment - But I did a half im earlier this season and my legs ached for a few days and didn't feel good until late that week. Bottom line... I think it all depends on your fitness heading into your marathon. My sense would be that it's not a good idea - too much of a chance that your form will deteriorate in the half-im run and you'll get your legs/knees in trouble. If you do compete in both, I'd stay tuned in to your body and keep yourself safe - No sense in rushing on doing both events to have to sit out for months afterwards doing therapy.. Good luck.

Depends on what your priority is. At first blush, I'd say go with NYC. Everyone's heard of NYC and will ask your time. "Miami Man Half Iron" doesn't have the same ring as, "Well, 40,000 of us started on the Verrazano . . . "

Ugggh! i've tried for 3 years and still have yet to get in. I'm now guaranteed next year. Miami half will be there next year. Do the NYC.

You could do both, and realize your performance will not be 100% for both or either.

You could defer either one and defer the other for next year.

If you do go to NYC let me know. I'll be there this year. ;-)

Maybe I am way off base here, but isn't the NYC marathon in November? I would think 5 months would be plenty of time to recover. Sorry if I have the date wrong.

I think the Miami Man is in November 8th or 9th and the NYC marathon is November 2nd?

Thanks for the input as I will opt for the ever famous NEW YORK MARATHON and hopefully all will go well and give me confidence to sign up for a full IM as I have already done two halfs, so its like what am I waiting for. A full was never in my wildest thoughts even after feeling like superman after my first sprint. As more of a reader and not a poster on trifuel (MY FIRST THREAD) I can say it would not have been the same if I did not get a response from Trisooner who we all hope can type really fast. Down here in flatsville I ran 1:49 half marathon so I guess I will be trying to finish around 4 hours.
