Nose plugs-to use or not to use

I'm just starting training for a sprint tri in Sept. During my swimming sessions I'm snorting up gallons of water (maybe not quite that much but it sure feels like a lot).

I'm sure a large part of it is my technique-which I am working on improving. However do any of you guys swim with a nose plug?
Again I'm new to this. Is is a good thing, bad thing or personal preference thing?

Thanks for your thoughts

If they make you feel more comfortable in the water, then by all means, use them. It doesn't really matter what other people do.

But it is probably a technique issue. Try constantly exhaling a little through your nose. During the sequence of a flip turn, i probably exhale nearly my full breath capacity through my nose.

I don't use a noseplug. Most experienced swimmers don't, but if that's what it takes to help you focus on swimming then you should stick with it. Just be prepared incase it gets kicked out or somehow knocked off in the race. You don't want to freak out if you loose it in the middle of a lake. I'd recommend doing part of your swim workouts without it so you're prepared for anything.
