Ive been trolling here for a while, decided to make myself know with a question. Im new to tri's and have been looking for some new bike shoes. Ive read your review of the specialized bg trivent. anyone know where the best(cheapest) place to pick them up. the lbs has them for 179, but i read on here people were paying like 140 .. or if anyone has a show that is just as good or better that would be great

I paid $140 for last years model of tri shoes at the LBS. The newer models were about $180. I forget the brand, so it probably doesn't help you.

Had I known exactly what size I needed, I probably would of just ordered them online. It was my first pair of biking shoes, so not only did I not know how many cm my foot was, but I wanted to make sure everything else felt right.

I just can't resist... you're not allowed to buy bike shoes until you spell triathlon properly :P

That's much less annoying than when people actually pronounce it that way. David on the TriTalk podcast usually pronounces it like that. Like Tri-ath-A-lon. It shouldn't bug me, but it does.

The best way to get deals on stuff in general is just do your research. Check online stores and your lbs, like TryScott did, look for last years model or have a goofy size. If you have LOADS of spare time and like to gamble, try ebay.

I'd weigh in with something worthwhile, but I just have the cheap ones from Pricepoint. They work fine for me, but I'm sure if I were to try something nicer, I'd see what I've been missing this whole time.

I just bought a pair of Pearl Izumi Tri Fly II's and have had no problems or discomfort at all. And for $115 at the LTS (local tri shop) I think they are well worth it. Good Luck!

I have the new Nike T-Speed shoes that are very similar to the Specialized, in that they have a vented sole, are extremely airy and are vile to look at. The tongue isn't as nice to slide into as some others, but I got them off ebay for half the MSRP. Already had Nike cycling shoes though, so I knew they would work.

I am in a similar situation. I have been in a pair of cheap Forte' tri shoes for the last 2 1/2 years and it is time to step it up. My wife and I are both in the market for new tri shoes actually so if we both get a pair of decent shoes, we will be spending near 400 to 500 bucks.

I have been seeing some seemingly good shoes for around $100 to $140 but the carbon fiber soles seem to start at around $160 a pair and only go up. My question is this: how much noticeable benefit will we get out of carbon fiber over a material that is less expensive/rigid? Also, does anyone have suggestions on great women's-specific shoes for my wife?
