70.3 Racing with hydration belt?
To address the running question, I used to do Gels on the run, and just take water at the aid stations. Recently, I have been doing InfinIT as well, and really like it. I experimented at my last Half-Mary, just running with the same water bottle that I train with. At that time, I was still using gels, but I had water in the bottle. I liked just being able to take sips when I wanted to, and knowing that I could just top it off at the aid stations. I think that I am going to use this approach from now on, because I always get thirsty in between aid stations.
Have not had to worry about InfinIT too much for Tri's because I'm just doing sprints for now. However, I believe that most InfinIT users are doing a single bottle concentrated with however many calories they want for the bike, and then a second bottle with water that they drink with the InfinIT to achieve proper osomality.
Bike aid stations work however you want them - get off, stretch, drink, pee if your goal is to just finish, or fly through and grab a bottle or two without stopping if you're going for a time or age group placing (there was a hilarious thread a few months back about peeing on the fly). I bring some powder in my bento box to replace my solutions, or you can train with what they're offering on race day and if it works for you you're golden
For Infinit on the bike and run, I just concentrate the bottle and make little marks for each ounce so I have a good general idea of where I should be in the bottle as time progresses.

hydration/fuel belt or if I should just use what's on the course?
Do you just keep a couple scoops of powder . . .
How do bike aid stations work? Do racers dismount and drink up, or are riders just grabbing water on the fly?
I've raced with and without a fuel belt, and I prefer with because nothing is left to chance. My last 70.3 last year I decided to go with what they had on the course and they ran out of Gatorade at the aid station (only one station , with multiple out-and-backs that passed it) so I only had water for the last half of the run, and bonked really badly. Lesson learned.

With Infinite just make a single feed bottle for the bike - i.e mix it for multi-hour. Then only take in water from the course. Being that the Infinite would be concentrated MUST take in water when take in Infinit. I mix up a 4 hour bottle for training rides. For IM I will have 2 three hour bottles.
For the run I have been using Infinit in a soft flask - found those from hammer. I think they hold about five ounces so again just a concentrated amount of Infinit and take in water on course. I didn't bother with a fuel belt and just carried the flask in my waist band. Being that the flask is soft and flexible it worked well.

Hey--I am thinking of making the switch to Infinit just for the ease of it all for my next IM. For your training rides in the summer (ie 80+ miles) if you carry 1-2 bottles of infinite how do you carry enough water? Do you stop and refill at the park or grab a bottle at a gas station?

For training - I will carry one bottle with a 3-4 hour mix (60 - 80 miles or so) then make a stop at a gas station and mix up another bottle for however longer I am going. In training I also carry 4 bottles of water.
At IM I will have a 3 hour bottle on the bike plus 1 bottle for water. Will pick up a second Infinit bottle at special needs. I will also carry additional powder in my jersey pocket as a just in case my SNB get lost or something.
I use an Arundel bottle for my feed bottle - nice low profile makes it areo on the down post - and an areo bottle for water.

Good to know! Thanks !!! My problem is I have a compact frame, so I can only carry my 2 on the back and my aero bottle on the front. I can add a carriage to the down tube--but it has to be a small bottle to get it out. I would just like to not have to make TOO many stops on my training rides :)
Thanks for the quick response RV!
If you are comforatble with what is on the couse don't use the fuel belt.
If you have your nutrition dialed in with InfinIT then go with the fuel belt.
Nothing to it, but to do it

Hi all- i've got a couple of hydration/racing questions for you.
For my first 70.3, does anyone have any input on racing (during the run) with a hydration/fuel belt, or if I should just use what's on the course? I've been training with Infinit on my long rides and runs, but I'm wondering if I should just go light on the run after fueling up on the bike?
The run course has 12 aid stations where they're serving Gatorade and water.
Also, how do you Infinit users out there handle your bike bottles? Do you just keep a couple scoops of powder in an empty bottle and fill it with water from a second bike bottle once you get started? Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
How do bike aid stations work? Do racers dismount and drink up, or are riders just grabbing water on the fly?
As always, thanks for the help.
