Ok, a short race, as far as races go - but this time I actually had to work hard due to my smack-talking colleagues. Let me preface by saying I suck at running. Always have, never cared. And I have a history of running slow, so slow that in HS pe class I used to skip a lap on my mile run and no one ever noticed - that made me normal.

If you find yourself in Omaha on Memorial Day, this one is fun, as it cruises the rollers on the Boys Town campus/village, and loops around the historic buildings. It's really pretty, and sometimes not too hot.

Started at 9 in overcast skies, with a kiss of rain. I started at the back since, well, I'm slow. Ooops, too far back, as I had lots of people to work through. I felt fast enough to get to the coveted 9 minute pace. I was having a blast and feeling really good then I cratered at the last hill on mile four. The last half mile seemed so long, I'm calling for a measurement :) Entered the finish chute with the clock ticking at 47:50. Mustered everything left to finish at 48 even.

An official time of 47:02.

52/68 if I were a 38 year-old male, otherwise 27/72.

Don't be so easy on yourself 'cause this one might be all that you have left

Overall sounds like a great race to me. Any race that I am within approx. 5% of my target time plus or minus I chalk up to a good one. In this case that 45 min barrier would have been 42:30 - 47:30.

Some will say too much variance but given weather, course, and andrenaline pump that you probably had from your co-workers, I say great job and keep on running.

good job getting out there!
(as an almost 38yo male, I resemble that performance...I'm working on it!!)
