I need another set of wheels for training. Cheaper would be better. Any thing I should all out avoid?

Anyone got a set of 650s in their garage, gathering dust?

650s? Man you like to make it tough... ;) I think we have a set of them, but I think they are going to be sold with a complete bike. I'd have to find out.

Personally I love the wheels that Wheelbuilder recommends. My training (and often racing) wheels are what he built for me (with a PowerTap... mmmm). And actually I'm not even sure what the model of them or the brand of the rim is. I just know it is what he told me to ride, and that they were a reasonable price.

I'm not sure what size they are, but I'm pretty sure they're tubulars. They look pretty aero too.

Alex rims. They came on my first bike and fell apart.

I'm a big fan of Mavic for training wheels.....always bombproof. The last set of training wheels I built was a pair of Mavic CXP22 rims laced to Shimano 105 hubs. You should be able to build those up for well under $200.

I"ll second the mavics - I train on Mavic Open Pro rims built with Ultegra hubs. Slap on some Armadillo tires and you have a totally bombproof wheel.

^^I'm taking 3 credits (practically nothing) of "research". It's basically an excuse to not get a job yet and fly around doing triathlons before becoming a productive member of society.
