For those who follow my blog you know why the name of the title, For the others you're welcome to visit my blog and find out. here is the report:I tried to keep the normal routine of pre-race, so I went to my favorite tri-running sport-store to simulate the expo and got some gu. I had pasta “party at home and went to bed @ 9. I slept until 5:30am. I had a cliff bar, Gatorade mixed with proteins and a banana for breakfast. Stretched, and prepared mentally. Drove to the start, warmed-up and by 7:30 I took off. My plan was to stick with my training plan and to see what would happen. By mile 3 controlled heart beat and kept it at 142hr. First turn around, mile 7.5, was looking good doing 7min pace. Back to the start point. I marked my hand palms with a smile face and 26.2. That was to remember to smile often and not force the muscles of my face and consequently my neck and shoulder to stress and to think that I was running a race not a long run. Got the second turn around, quickly went to the water station, my car, grabbed a full water bottle, dumped the empty one, grabbed a banana and off again I came back to the same path. I had kept the 82-85% HR by then and time was still within range’s goal. Got to mile 20.5, that was the mark to turn around for the last time. Things changed, my legs were tired, very tired. I had no strength to keep moving fast. I did not want to stop to break the motion. I though it would be harder to run again after the stop, so kept moving. At one point I walked-run-walked. I had hit the wall. It was the first time in a marathon that I was running at this pace and my system was not up to it. I trained for this but I guessed wrong. I run the last three miles. Finished in first place over-all, (hahaha), in 3:30:14. I am happy. Sore, extremely sore, but happy. :)

awesome man. great run and time for your first, or any for that matter. I haven't gone that far myself, but from what I'm told it's normal to hit that wall at 20-22 miles. it's those last few that are the killers. good job. :)

I don't have time to go and read the blog, but why in the world would you run a marathon by yourself??!?! Just to say you did it??

Ya know what! I am planning the same friken' thing if there isn't a race near my home before fall. I did my first 10km and 1/2 by myself and I will probably do the same thing as he did.

Bravo, I admire your determination!! Bravo again!

Nice job man! That is an accomplishment. Like Brett, the longest I have gone in a single person event is 20 mi. That last 6.2 must have just been GREAT! I did a 22 miler once before the Phila. marathon, but picked up another solosist at about mile 8 and we finished the run while chatting. Personally, I hate going alone the time just drags, but I can't find any idoits to go with me. My build is for IM is in full swing, so, I have a 16-17mi. solo mission this weekend can't wait!

One a side note, for some reason I can handle the 5-6 hrs. on bike much better than 2-2 1/2 on pounding pavement. Not really sure why? Yeah, I can't find anyone who likes to ride that far either.

Pretty cool Panchotri! I am planning a half marathon, and After some of the long races i have done had thought that a marathon wouldn't be so bad, but keep hearing about that 20 Mile wall, never ran over 8 miles At once myself! I did a 1/4 IM or a mini once that took me 2:45 or something like that, I am a slow swimmer .06 took me 30 minutes! anyways faster now! But I admire you for the distance, I am going to be stepping up my distance, above 8 soon as I am still recovering from a surgery, I will take your story as an encouragement! And expect that when I get near 20 be ready!
Keep on doing it for you, i am encouraged you didn't need a finisher's medal or others to do it just you! I lose sight of that sometime!

Keep on Tri-ing,
Eric

The momentum carried the last 6 miles. It’s like the extra hour you ride in a long ride. I would recommend running the distance on your own. After that day every short run is a warm-up, a tempo run last no less than one hour, a long run becomes enjoyable, a lsd in prep for a race seems very likable doable and you look forward for running Sunday.
Tricomet: Situations outside my control made me do the one man marathon: I had signed to run Las Vegas Marathon but I canceled because my wife’s dad suffered a rare sickness during that time. She went to see him to Colombia South America. We spent a lot of money and could not afford to travel to Vegas.
I did get back to Forward Motion and rewarded my self with a coolmax singlet.
Thanks Eric, I ‘m a slow swimmer too. I guess the key of all of this is consistence, consistence to keep training and consistence to keep adding miles and effort every time you’re out there.

Hey Pancho,

Is this going to be an annual event? Maybe we could set a date and run our own one man races individually. (yeah right!!)
