I just finished the Green Bay marathon this past weekend and am gearing up to start my tri specific training for the Steelhead 70.3 on Aug 2nd. This gives me 10 weeks to prepare. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a 10 week training program. I ran a 2:54 at the GB marathon and have been cycling throughout my training so I think I have a pretty good base to build on. I have been thinking about using the 20 wk program from this site and just cutting out half the weeks. Any advice? Any specific 10 wk programs? Thanks....

Sounds like the base is there. Look at your training volume and then look at the schedule for the 20wk program. If you're doing more than is required at the 10wk point, then just pick up wherever you're comfortable. If you're behind the 10wk mark, I've heard it commonly recommended to pick up at your current point (say wk6 or wk7), and skip every 3rd or 4th week in the plan, depending on your needs. I have no experience with this method, but I've heard that answer given to the same question.

If it were me, I'd pick up at the 10 week mark w/ the bike and run, and build up the volume of swimming as you don't have that base built up yet. Starting at the 10 week mark w/ the swim volume may be a bit much. Based on your current endurance though you should be able to work up to the current swim workouts soon. Listen to your body

pick up at the level of the plan where you fit in and don't try to skip ahead.

it's better that you go into the triathlon knowing that you're only in wk 13 for the swim than thinking you're fully trained for the event. besides, there's no point in overtraining because it may cause an injury which will be more of an interruption to your season
