Hello,

As I am improving my training and getting serious about tri I have brought an entry level road bike (go-sport spego 130 http://www.go-sport.com/catalogue/cycle/Cycle-P36_41.pdf ) in addition to my old trusted and crappy Dutch bike AKA 2-wheel-Panzer

The problem is that it is my first serious bike and I do not know how to and how often should I clean it and take care of it.
In the fiets shops there are many accessories: the choice is quite overhelming.
I know the question can seem lame and I really feel stupid to ask but
can someone provide advice on the do and don't ?

A+
Lionel

I'm real picky with my bike. I spray furniture polish on a cotton rag and wipe my entire bike down after "almost" every ride....cleans and polishes and keeps grime from sticking to your bike too. I then spray my tires and wheels with window cleaner and wipe off. Degrease and clean chain once a week unless I rode in the rain, then it should be cleaned and re-oiled after the ride.

I have this down pat, and can to all of this in less than 5 minutes. Everyone always comments about how clean I keep my bike.

I feel and ride better on a clean bike.

Good luck and have fun riding your new bike.

Tim

I agree with Tim G, I tend to wipe down my bike after each ride. I carry my bike in the rear of my Expedition, with the seats down, and wrapped in a furniture pad. I don't put my bike on a bike carrier hanging on the back of my car.

If I do ride in the rain, I take extra care during the wipe down, and also make sure the chain is cleaned and oiled well.

I spent way too much money on mike bike to treat it like a beater....

OK, thanks for the info.

When you write "degrease and clean the chain" do you use one of these strange boxes with brushes that they call chain cleaners ?

As for the rain, in the Netherlands it rains a lot :)
