Worth Upgrading Bike Components?
IMHO, no. Upgrading from Ultegra to Dura Ace is negligible and Ultegra is appropriate for the frame you have. If you had 105, maybe. Save the money toward a new bike with full DA. I have full DA/FSA carbon cranks and can't really tell the difference when I upgraded from Ultegra. A new full set of DA 10spd will run you about $1200+, but collectively, how many grams would you save over the Ultegra?
+1 to TriSooner. I would just save up more money until next year and buy a new complete possibly full carbon frame with newer technology all around. If you need to spend money on something, I would say aero wheelset, aero helmet, bike fitting. Those will benefit you alot more than an upgrade from ultegra to dura ace IMO.
"If one can stick to the training throughout many long years, that willpower is no longer a problem. It's Raining? That doesn't matter. I am tired? That's beside the point. It's simply just that I have to."

Thanks guys. Next question was about wheels - and ryan has given me his thoughts (thanks)...i am defintely not very technical when it comes to the bike, so i appreciate the feedback. Spent money on the fit, and may get the aero helmet (if the wife lets me..lol)

+1. Ultegra is perfectly serviceable.
+1, you spend money already on the biggest thing that will help you with racing, getting a good bike fit. Aero wheels will make a much bigger difference than upgrading components at this point in time, if you are going to spend ~$1000 on something, spend it on that over the component upgrade.

Spend $ on biggest bang for buck. Frameset, wheelset - these are the big ones - not upgrading from Ultregra to Dura Ace, or a new fork, or an aero helmet. Unless you are already riding 100% of the time in a nicely crouched, perfectly fit aero position, an aero helmet is re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Your upright riding position is more of a windsock that your regular helmet. IMHO, and as has been said already, a wheelset is your next best move.
If you have the $:
1. Fit
2. Areo helmet - pretty inexpensive
3. PowerMeter
4. Wheels
Agree with no real driving reason to upgrading your Ultegra components.

Hello, I have a Cannondale Tri Bike, 4 years old but in good shape. Aluminum Frame, Carbon Fork. Ultegra components. Is it worth upgrading my components (ie derailuers, cogs, chain etc etc) to a high-end set...I can't drop 5K on new bike, but want to ensure i am getting the most with what i got...thoughts or suggestions?
