Second Tri
70 degrees kinda cold? You're kidding, right?
Good luck with your race. You should be more than fine in 70 degree water.
i hear you man on the cold water. i have a race on the 31st of this month and the water temp is going to be 80..... much better. good luck!
Hehe...I'll see you there, it's my season opener
An open water pool swim...that's right people you read it correctly...goto www.triforjoe.com and look at the swim course...talk about a mess...but it's in my backyard and definately should be a good time as all tris are. I will feel foolish unvieling my new wetsuit at its first race...in a pool...but oh well, it will be good to get some racing in the suit.
See you there, kidwonder, and count your blessings they aren't having us swim in the Ohio, b/c I'd almost guarantee it's colder than 70 right now.

What kind of pool swim course is that? Wild. I should sign up for that, looks like a neat cause!
Even having an uncle and cousin with Down, I hadn't heard of this one.
This is the pool where the swim will be.

Kids included I hope...and we better utilize the slide....while we're at it might as well put up an inflatable obstacle course b/w pool exit and transition area

700 meter pool swim? In that pool? I guess it will work. Iy looks kinda big. But is it even deep enough? Please, looking at the pic, I could walk it. I'm assuming it gets deeper but judging from the pic, it looks like about 2' deep for at least 50 meters. Sounds like a massive cluster F waiting to happen. It's a age group wave start. What are you going to do? All jump in the same lane at the same time? Wow, totally gonna suck, dude. Unless you are a sub 1:30/ per 100m pace - or the last age group - you are in for some fun! If they set up lanes you will have wave after wave of faster swimmers passing you; and you will be passing slower swimmers from preceding age groups . . . all in little bitty lanes. If you can do this pool swim, any long-course, open-water, bouy-navigated open water swim will be easy.
And please, don't tell me you are getting/wearing a wetsuit for a 700m pool swim.

I already have a wetsuit...I'm just using it, I figure...this is a B race for me (mostly to practice transitioning faster and to see how my bike to run bricks have improved my speed out of T2), I've never raced in a wetsuit and would like to before my A race in August, and hey...I can.
Also, I have considered the swim issue...I'm not a fast AG swimmer, however 700m isn't exactly a long distance, so I'm hoping to push the first 150 and get myself between the slow people and the ones who are clearly faster than me...that way (fingers crossed) I will have some room to work.
And...It's not lanes...look at the routing map...it's some sort of zig-zag around buoys

It looks like a hoot!
looks different anyway, my first tri is next weekend. mines in a lake and the water is going to be around 60 degrees.
good luck with yours, i can't wait to get my forst one under my belt.
My wetsuit says to not use it in pool water. I'm not sure why, or what harm will happen, but if you do use it, make sure to wash it off with clean water really well when the race is over. If I were you, I'd ditch the wetsuit and test it later in some open water practice. If you haven't been swimming with it yet, do you really want to try it for the first time in a B race? What if you find out that it moves your tri shorts to your knees? That would be embarrasing to find out in T1.

What the hell?

haha I don't even have a wetsuit so hopefully its warm tomorrow!
its on like donkey kong
I got dizzy just looking at the layout for the swim. Good luck! :)
70 won't be too bad. I wouldn't wear a wetsuit...unless it's for the practice of ripping it off.
70 is easy. I just raced this morning and I'm not sure what the official temp was in Galena but I think it was 58 or 59.
Hey kidwonder, how'd you do...it was a fun race, the pool swim wasn't as bad as it looked, but the water was COLD!!!...I think we took off at like 61, so I was glad to have my wetsuit. I think the course was a little short all-around tho...the bike was a little over a mile short according to my CPU and my time was way faster than I had planned. But I got some hardware, won the clydesdale division, first div win ever...I'll post a race report after the results are posted.
Hope you enjoyed your second
