Trek 1.2
We've been happy overall with our customer response to this bike. In general it is a nice riding bike for the money. We seem to get good fits with it as well.
One thing to consider is that the head tube on this bike is long-ish. A good thing for a newer road rider or someone who is not interested in a low front end of the bike. Consider if this bike will suit your needs for aerobar position. Can you get the bar low enough for your needs?
For MOST of our "new to tri" customers it has not been an issue. But is worth mentioning.
Is this essentially the replacement for the Trek 1000?
Yes, the 1.2 is basically the replacement for the 1000.
I bought a Trek 1000 a few years ago and it has been great. Didn't have a lot to spend on a bike and this was a great starter bike for me. I had a lot to learn about riding on a road bike before I ever got on a tri bike.
What else have you looked at? Specialized and Giant both make bikes in the same price range (and many other companies I'm sure).
I ended up with a Jamis. Of all the bikes I tried out I liked it best. :)
Which model?
Very low end...Ventura Sport. But I figure I can trade it in when I really figure out what I really want. It def doesn't absorb the shock from bumps very well...wondering if maybe I should have shelled out a few extra bucks and gone with the Satellite which had a carbon fork. Or is this just a road bike vs. mountain bike thing?
i just picked up a new marin argenta. it is a new 07 model i believe. all i haev adde was some profile t2 aero bars. rides nice for my first road bike.
picked it up on sale for $899cdn.

Hmmm can't seem to add attachment.
Here's what I got.
I was just in the same boat a couple of months ago. I thought I was going to go for the 1.2 also. However, I would totally recommend upgrading with an older model Trek if you have that option at a LBS around you. I got a new '07 Trek 1500 for less than $100 more than it would have cost for the 1.2. All Shimano 105 components is definitely an upgrade that is worth it! I love the bike!
Just a thought. Have fun with the search!

I've read some reviews about the Ventura Sport and it seems like a good buy for the $.
My guess is you are used to a mountain bike with fat, bump absorbing tires.
Well if money were no issue, I'd be going for the Cervelo P2C. :) But for now I'll just have to be content.

I've been looking at bikes for the past couple of days and I think I've settled on this one. I don't really have a lot of money to spend right now, so I need something thats going to give me more bang for my buck. I've been looking for something used, but so far haven't come across anything. Anyone have one? Do you like it?
