TTT Roll Call
I'm in and solo again. Mainly cause I can't find a team mate that is as slow as I am. What have I been doing...well riding hills, runing hills, and riding some more hills. I am really ready I think for it this year and hope to do better than just survive. Anyone else??
Chris
Good luck to all! That is one I'd love to do someday.
(And Chris -- I thought I'd seen you over here before :))
Chris,
I see you are from the home of the TTT.
So just how bad are the hills???

I had many plans on biking and running a lot, just around in the area and find as many hills as possible, however, there always came something in the way, school, rolled ankles, and so on. So I htink I'm in shape to complete, but probably not in the top as I hoped when I signed up with my buddy, who btw has been even more lazy than me :D
But I'm in and excited
I did the Little Smokies HIM a few years back which was run on Sunday of the TTT. (Well actually I DNF'd due to a broken crank.) The hills are to be respected...quite steep in some places. Some great descents though...the hills on the run? Wicked. This is a tough course. Kona Expat was there last year...she might have some insight.

Good morning,
Hey Kylie, yes I'm lurking over here too :) You just never know where I'll pop up.
As for the hills....well it depends on your usual terrain. If you live in Colorado it is prob not too bad but if you live in Florida, it is going to be tough. On Fri eve the bike up the hill is a little steep but kind of long. The race Sat morning one steep, and long hill and it is right after a over 90degree turn to the left , then there are some rollers and at least one wicked downhill turn...but it is marked. And by the way if it is marked "slow down" unless you like to meet trees and ditches up close and personal....slow down.
Sat. afternoon, out is a nice long downhill descent, not techinal at all but you then turn around and climb it. Not super steep but long.
Sun. a couple of steepish hills but mostly rolling,,,,but there is a long ascent on FR 1 not horrible just really long. Then a quick descent that is a little tricky. So watch the gravel and the traffic...no the course is not closed to traffic but it is not heavy and the State Patrol and Sheriff do a good job. I use a 12-27 but I am not a great climber. Most people that I have talked to use a 25 to 27. I hope this helps and it is a truly fun weekend and will def. test your fitness level whether you are just using this for training or really racing hard. Looking forward to it. If you have any other questions I'll try to help
Chris
Chris,
Thanks for the info. I live in a pretty hilly area of PA so I'm pretty used to constantly going up/down. I've heard stories about the turns on a couple of the descents. The guy I'm racing with has done it before so hopefully that will help.
Sounds fun.

I'm in, going solo. Have practically done the entire thing in training twice already (check my blog for NothingMan label). This week I'm busy beating myself down with a ton of swimming and running--last week was a lot of biking. Next week will be a "normal" training week (18-19 hours) and then it's race week!!!
I had so much fun last year being on a 2-woman team, but I know I'll have just as much fun this time around, as many friends will be there.
Wow - its May 11th, i jsut came in from a run and i swore it was March 11th. Cloudy and 38F wind chill, what happened to global warming? The forecast calls for mid 50's and better from now on. My training has been ok and it will be fun to get away, put on race number and see what we got. I'm attempting this adventure solo and goal is to finish, not destroy myself for summer season and have a good time. My running is sub-par and that worries me. I'm okay up to 5M, but anything further is going to be interesting. Biking is good, have several rides outside and one 55M hilly charity ride near the IM-Wisconsin course. Hasn't been warm and rding is always windy. My swimming is better than past years and it is my worst discipline. I've been in the pool alot and feeling comfortable there, but seriously worried about open water swim. Race weekend might be my first OW swim this year. Lake Michigan just isn't warming up see link below - (even threw a plugged in toaster off the pier to heat it up).
Hope the next weeks are good for everyone,
steve
Rankings are now up on HFP's site. There's some fast names there. I'm #57 and my partners #58. Our teamname however is not mentionable on this forum ;)

Well, I'm #228 and that is prob. wishful thinking. :) Your team name is not that bad :) Well better get to work and quit messing around on the computer. Have a good day everyone.
Chris
I'm getting more and more excited... Does anyone know what the temperature is where the swim is taking place? With all the lack of sun, I'm kinda afraid, because I HATE cold water :D
btw, I'm #260 and my buddy #259

I'm getting excited too. Not sure on the lake temp, I heard elsewhere low 60's. For me that would be perfect as I tend to overheat in too warm water.

It was in the lower 60's last week when we had more sun and less rain. It is a smallish lake and does change fairly easily with the rain and all that we have been having. I'll be out there tomorrow and I'll check it again.
I'm getting so excited and twitchy...twitchy due to slightly reduced training going into taper.
Have a good one and I'll let yall' know what it is tomorrow.
Chris

So who's in? Solo or team, and what have you been doing to get ready for this? It's starting to sink in that it is only just over 2 weeks away! This will be my first time so I've been riding and running hills, and lots of them!
