Hey everyone.

So, I have this opportunity to attend a great workshop in lighting design (that's what I do for a living)... The long story short is that I am moving to NY in December because my girlfriend is going to grad-school at Columbia. To that end, I am trying to network, and get to meet some prospective employers.

The trouble is that I am pretty short on dough, and need a place to crash starting on May 19th for a week.

If anyone knows of a place that I can stay for cheap, or even a couch I can crash on I would be much obliged. I promise not to throw any crazy parties at your house or anything like that. Unless you want me to...

Seriously, thanks for any help or suggestions you can offer me.

Feel free to get a hold of me via PM here, or send an email to: scott.shiba@gmail.com

I'd offer crash space, but I'll be on vaca that week and I don't think my girl would be happy about offering up our apt. to a random person while we're gone. The only one I knew in the city who might have had some couch space just moved to Seattle (also a Columbia grad himself).

For cheapness, look at motels outside the city along the rail lines. Also check out priceline; may be cheesy but you can get some nice deals.

Man... it's actually a really strange larger-than-we-expected world of columbia alums....

I totally understand the situation, so no worries there... I'll look into the priceline thing, thanks for the tip!

Hey Shiba,
Full house here, my daughter's coming home from college and I've heard all about you triathlete guys. Maybe not much help, but check out the hostel, not hostile link below.

I know NYU used to rent out dorm rooms during the summer semester and other nyc colleges may as well.

If all else fails I know of a large, slightly used cardboard box on 5th Ave at 53rd ;)

hope you find something

my brother's a musician and uses priceline and livewire all the time for cheap places. last time he played in NYC, my folks went to see him and they all coincidentally stayed in the same place and my brother paid half what my folks did

+1 on cayman's dorm idea...if the gf is committed to Columbia, they may be able to help with week stay room

(and, i'm a columbia alum too)
