Pacific Crest Olympic Triathlon

Hello...I am new to this site! I have only competed in 1 sprint but I signed up for several sprints leading up to my first oly...the pacific crest in sunriver, oregon! I'm on an adventure....can anyone tell me anything about this course? Easy, medium or difficult? I am traveling from North Carolina back to my home state...there's no place like home...I hope it holds true for this race too! I will be traveling coast to coast doing triathlons starting in may thru Nov...my husband is in Iraq for a year and is very excited to follow my races online and watch my adventures. Any races I shouldn't miss???

Hey! My husband and I plan on doing the olympic one in Sunriver as well!! ( June 2007.) This will both be our first triathlon ever. We're reallly exctied but I'm pretty nervous! He has not done anything.. I have ran a half marathon before and a few other shorter races.

I haven't heard anything about the tri in sunriver but I know it's beautiful. We live about 2 hours from sunriver and visit often.. I'm sure it will be great!

That is SO awesome that your husband is going to following your races online. Best of luck to you girl! Maybe I'll see you there.

That sounds like a great adventure, and welcome back to Oregon for the Pacific Crest. It's a really beautiful course, though the heat can sometimes make it tough (though other years it is not as hot). The lake swim is quite cold, I think in the mid-60's. I'd consider a full-sleeve wetsuit if you're buying oine. The Oly course is mostly rolling hills, and the run is pretty flat. The scenery is awesome! If you're not used to the elevation, it's over 3000' feet, which doesn't seem like much but can have an effect, especially coupled with heat. If you can, arrive a few days beforehand so you have a bit of time to acclimate. Have fun!

i'm headed there too for the Olympic tri, and my wife will do the half marathon.

I completed the olympic last year. the swim course is in a resevoir typically 58-65 degrees. the bike course is relatively flat, with one major uphill with a corresponding downhill. The run course goes through sun river. One thing that was difficult to deal with was the heat. It was like 95 plus degrees out, lots of people were cramping. Overall its a great race with a great crowd.

Hey all, I am hoping to be there too!! I say 'hoping' because I broke my ankle a few months ago and haven't tried running yet!! Since Tribro lives in Bend, maybe we can have a trifuel get together!! Maybe even get in a pre-race ride or run!! I've heard wonderful things about this race and the whole weekend in general!

definitely we'll do a get together.
