I have a marathon coming up in 2.5 weeks and I am starting my taper. I have always hated the taper in the past and have felt like it leaves my legs feeling heavy and my mind sluggish. I realize that is a necessary evil but I was wondering if anybody has any tips to maintain my mental edge? I know I am not losing any fitness by cutting back my miles but I cant seem to keep my mind from drifting in that direction. Please help...

Also, is anyone doing or has done the green bay marathon? Any impressions/tips of the course?

wow green bay in 3 weeks? I'm from the midwest (Iowa) and it seems like it would be getting a little hot and humid for a marathon in the middle/end of May.
Good luck though and let me know, I am always looking for marathons in the midwest.

i just went through the agony of tapering for boston. im a high mileage runner so i have a tough time adhering to a certain plan every time. but the pfitzinger plan really helped remind me why a taper is so essential.

Dude...

Tapering is my favorite part. In fact, I've contemplated avoiding the build altogether and just going straight for the taper. :D

If it's a marathon taper I'll add some visits to the pool and hit the rowing machine just to keep active and my mind off of running. I usually slip though and sneak in an unscheduled ez slow run or 2 or 3...
