Lately i've noticed in some magazines, pictures of people running with these loose fitting gloves on. They almost look like gardening gloves. It doesn't appear to be cold out, because the people aren't wearing jackets or long pants. Just the gloves? What's up?

Wet gloves or they have ice in them.

I heard, I think it was Ruter Beke, talking about it.

+1.

I think the reason it's helpful to keep your hands cold is because you have a main vein in the bottom of your wrist that takes a ton of blood back to the heart, so it helps keep your core cooler. It's actually really helpful to even just squirt really cold water on your wrists, or run them under a drinking fountain.

Either that or to mask his EPO-positive results.

They talked about this a bit on NBC's Kona covergae- I think it was Sindballe who put ice in his glove to keep himself cool.

For now, my hypothalamic thermostat and my sweat gland are doing a great job in maintaining an optimal core body temperature! He might have a genetic defect in sweat gland hahah just joking around, but I am curious if vasoconstriction (dilatation of vessels in skin capillary networks is used by our body to get rid of too much heat...) induced by cooling his wrists does more harm than benefits gained with cooling his temperature. + loose fitting gloves are not so aerodynamic. Waiting for more information on this interesting topic!

Oh man thats priceless.

I remember the thing in kona about the gloves with ice in them.

I, as well as many of the people i run with, will put gloves on before we wear long sleeves. The hands just get so damn cold on long runs, and yes they do act as great snot rags.

I have a lovely little pair that the Hanson's guys gave everyone on their mailing list who finished the detroit marathon this year. I had to wear them today for my ride and my run. I was not pleased by this. Bloody michigan.
