Nothing like you. I started at 146 (OMG, I where did that come from?) After the 'Summer of Malts', I'm down to 132. I'd like to be 128 by HyVee.
Way to go!!

#2 Break 6 hours at Florida 70.3
#3 Finish my season off at my local sprint with a Sub 1:30.
#4 Keep my weight and continue the momentum though the off season.
#5 Share my joy and help others with the love of Triathlon.
This is the first year in 3 that I havent been sick or plagued by injury, so I am loving life again after 3 years of misery.
Congratulations! 30 pounds is stellar.
I just have to say, though - you menfolk have it kind of easy.
I started trying to take weight off in Feb. I've lost 6 pounds. Repeat - 6. I'm eating way less and training more and 6 is the number.
I just keep telling myself 6 is good! That is 6 fewer pounds to drag around on race day.

That's awesome. That's honestly so inspiring for me. I'm having a hard time losing weight right now.
I have a "crazy" goal of being 200 by the end of the year. So far, I started the year at 275, and I'm down to 255. I still have a long way to go, and I definitely need to pick up the pace. It's good to hear there are other people here trying to lose weight.
I might be interested in the wetsuit. I'm only 5'10'', but if it's the right size, I might be interested.
"The melting point of wax means nothing to me": Thrice
I graduated college 2 years ago at 255. I am now at my lightest since my freshman year at 205 and still working to lose more. I work in the Food and Beverage industry so it takes a lot of will power to not snack all of the time. I keep small little snacks with me to help me from snacking on all the fried foods that are always around. My goal is to be at 185 and between 10-12% bodyfat. That would put me right back where I graduated high school at.
Congrats everyone!
I'm 6'2" and 200lbs right now and this time last year I was 220lbs.
I've pretty much lost the weight due to exercise because my diet is still pretty poor.
To everyone trying: Do not give up. In May of 2004, I was very out of shape and weighed 280 pounds. I had tried for a couple years to lose weight, but always got frustrated with a lack of results. No idea what it was, but something finally clicked that year. I started eating better and running (well mostly walking at that time) for 30 minutes a day. No special rules, just being smart and no beer or fast food. And I worked out EVERY day. About a year later, I was 185 and training for my first triathlon. (I needed to stay motivated to work out somehow). Since that time, I have competed in about 3 triathlons a year. Not a crazy schedule, but still fun. And I have kept the weight off. I am about 190 right now and that' with a lot more muscle mass than before. Keep trying. The concept is as hard as people make it seem: Spend more calories than you take in. It just takes the discipline to do it.
In 2006 I only did one 5k. I saw 193 on the scale around May of 2007 which helped me realize that I need to make changes. So, in 2007 I did 6 road races and 2 triathlons. The first race was a 5k in July (24+ min). Last month I ran a 5k in 20:01, and I'm hoovering around 170 lbs.
My weight made me realize that I needed to do something, but it's never been my motivation to train. So far I'm getting the most enjoyment from doing longer distances. Last year was my first 10 mile race, half marathon, sprint, and olympic triathlon. This year I'm planning my first marathon, century, and 70.3. Next year's goal may be the 140.6. Ultra's in 2010? We'll see.
Keep up the good work NotAsFast.
congrats
Hyperactive Trifueler!!!! (I refuse to let the status go :p)
Woo hoo! Nice work everyone.
I bit the bullet and joined Weight Watchers with my wife. At 5'10", I've been hanging around 205 for a long time. After a month or so, I am a little below 190 with 10 more pounds to go before my first half, VikingMan, at the begining of june. I probably won't be able to beat 6 hours with you NotAsFast, but I do plan on crossing the finish line.

Men do have it easier dropping weight. But 6 pounds is great and my guess is that you did it in a healthy way too. Also remember that muscle weighs more than fat. So you could have lost 12 pounds of fat and replaced it with 6 pounds of muscle! The scale says 6 pounds but we all know it was way more!
Men do have it easier dropping weight.
I beg to differ, as the latest season of Biggest Loser showed (I know alot of you fellow trifuelers are fans), girls have a much easier time of losing weight than men, 2 out of the 3 finalists were women. I think that settles the debate about who has an easier time losing weight. :)
I am 6' 4" and when I graduated college, I was a lean 280. Now almost 3 years later, I am 185. The weight does seem to drop slowly, but if you stick with it, you will eventually hit your goal and all the work you put in will be more than worth it.
Congrats to all for losing the weight and choosing a healthy lifestyle.
Something I've noticed about this thread is how easy it is for men to say the actual number of pounds they weigh. Women just don't do that. So I'm going to do it because I'm liberated!
I started at 136 and I'm down to 129. I'm 5'2" According to the standard BMI calculators (which are not very accurate) my BMI is 23.6 which is 'normal'. I want better than normal, though - I'm trying to achieve "lean".
I'm looking forward to 125 and hoping that eating the way I do and training the way I do will eventually lead to 120 but I expect that to take a really long time and I have no intentions of pushing it. I made some significant but very livable changes to how I eat and I'm good with that.
My real difficulty is in finding the balance between trimming down and not running out of fuel on a long hard ride. So far, so good.

All this is in my profile. I use that as my journal.
5'10 Male. October 2006 couch potato 225 pounds
Never did any sort of racing in my life. Recreational team sports mostly.
Decided Oct 15th 2006 that I was going to get the CD's for my treadmill to guide me to a 10 minute mile 5K.
Jan 2007 206 lbs, and sometime in February I was able to do a 10 min mile 5K on the treadmill.
Jan 2008 196 lbs, I decide I should be losing more weight than I am. I am training constantly. My diet needed to be changed. I start to track calorie intake via fitday.com
April 26 '08 177 lbs. Couldn't be more pleased with the diet change, it was the final piece of the puzzle for me.
Congrats everyone, I know what it feels like to his those weight goals. Good Stuff!
I am gaining weight! Up 12 pounds since last year. Even though I am at 122 , 5'4". I have hit the weights hard this winter and gained some muscle. I had my first Tri of the season last weekend and improved by 10 mintues from last year! Good enough for 1st in my age group. 25-29.
I feel good but my clothes no longer fit very well in the legs. I guess since I have put on muscle i would be "thicker" but it is still kind of hard for me to deal with. I always here people getting down to their race weight after the winter.. but i have seemed to go up. Is that bad??
After boot camp (when I started Tris) I went from 5"10 189 (max for my height at the time) and running a mile and a half felt the Bataan death march to, 152 and running my first Half IM in may =)/

Base 1 (Week 2, 16.5hrs)
Check out my blog!
After having 4 kids in 4 years, I was trying to figure out how to lose the weight. Last summer, my friend convinced me to try a tri with her, all women, so I wasn't too intimidated. I was already running and swimming, I borrowed my sister's bike. I did the race as an "athena" at 175 lbs. I got hooked on the training, the racing etc...and did my next tri a month later, where I placed 1st in the "Annie Oakley" division- at around 165.
I did 2 half marathons in the winter and my weight steadily came down (all those long runs, I think) and then I did my 1st olympic in March, where I again placed 1st in the Athena division. At that point I was really hovering around the athena qualifying weight of 150. Last month, I joined the age groupers (weighing 148- I figured it was only right) at a race and still placed 3rd. I think I want to stay at this weight as my mother keeps getting this concerned look on her face everytime she sees me and says I'm too skinny blah blah...but I keep explaining to her that I feel strong and I eat constantly etc...
My first half distance is only a week and a half away and I crossed over to the happy side of 180! Happy times. My buddy told me Saturday morning that I need to pick up a 25 pound bag of flour and immagine lugging that all the way through the race.

I started with a sprint last fall and weighed in at 240 before I began. Was 225 when I raced the sprint. This week, before I'm headed for my first race of the season, I'm weighing in at 205-208. I'm pretty happy, as it has made me feel much better, and I know I'm much healthier.
The funny part is that my 5 year old is just about 40 pounds, and now, when I carry him up the stairs, I'm thinking... "wow, I used to carry that much weight every time..."

Just wanted to share a major goal I set for myself. I am so stoked.
Goal #1 for Disney - Lose 30 pounds. I am 6'4" and was at 265 Dec 1st. Hoped on the scales today 231. 34 pounds and I still have 3 weeks till the race.
All healthy weight loss. Two jean sizes and one shirt size about to be two.
Yea Haw.......
Anyone having any similar success.
BTW, anyone interested in a slightly used wetsuit that does not fit me at all anymore, nor ever will again.
