I'm 17 in some what decent shape, can bike around 30 miles, swim 1-1.2 miles and thats where the problem starts i can run only around 3-4 miles non stop. I'm hoping to run the chicago triathlon next year so any advice would be helpful at this point, as have no idea where to start.

just go out and jog (slower than you think you can)

increase your mileage by no more than 10% per week for a few weeks and then back off by 25% for the fourth week. in the fifth week, start at the level you were at in your third week and keep following the 10% & 25% rules. (you can set up a little excel sheet and project out how many weeks it would take to get you up to a particular distance)

Yup what triac said :) Listen to your body and just enjoy the experience of running :)

And welcome to the sport!

Many plans out there. Just start slow. Best of luck. Welcome to the addiction.

Man, you're in awesome shape. I'll trade you if you want. I can run a full marathon, but I can't swim more than 600yds nonstop. I think that run fitness is the easiest to build, so you should be fine. Just build up gradually. Add around a mile to your long run every week or two, and you'll be there in no time.

Somewhat decent? At 17 my athletic ability was limited to "could bowl a strike without having to get up from my seat."

Welcome to the forums!

ive known some folks that felt they could only run so far (and then they had to walk). i thought about it awhile and decided they were trying to run too fast. so like some folks here, i suggested they go slow and build up. i agree with others here, that seems to work.

i took a running clinic that helped me start running great. was 15 weeks long and go me from a non runner to a 10k race in 1hr.

as said before, take it slower and the distance and speed will follow.

I agree with everything said above, also try to look into proper running form and mechanics. It'll be much easier to work on now, then after you've established a habit of bad form. It's something thats often overlooked with new runners. You may be a natural runner, but here is quick overview

Good luck!
