Question for the ladies...
Most swim suits offer little to no support for running. The first couple of races I did, I put a sports bra under my swim suit. (If you don't want to run in just a swim suit, you can pull on a pair of shorts after the swim or wear trishorts or compression shorts with the swimsuit for the whole event. Many women are comfortable enought to wear just sports bra and tri or compression shorts.
After I decided I was addicted to the sport, I got a trisuit and wear a sports bra under that.
Thanks for the advice. I am not ready to show my post-baby belly yet, but maybe one day!
I have heard about these DeSoto suits that supposedly have great support...sounds like maybe I will decide based on trial and error!
Thanks again.
I can't speak for all of the DeSoto suits, but I just purchased the De Soto tri short and tri top with built in bra and I can tell that I'm going to need some added support. I'll probably wear a sports bra underneath. Unfortunately, the built in bra just isn't as great as it sounded.
I've done several tris the past two years in a sports bra and tri shorts. I put this on under my wet suit. After the swim, I throw on a top (sleeveless if its hot, sleeves if its chilly). My number is already attached to a stretchy belt around my waist (under the wetsuit too) so I am not waisting time putting that on. The tops with a built-in are just not supportive enough for me and I've thought that it would be too bulky with a sports bra under tri-top so I never did it that way either. .....another idea for you.
You say that the DeSoto Support Top didn't provide enough support and a sport bra was needed anyway. So I can understand this more....are you a A, B, C, D? size...obviously a larger cup size requires more support. Sorry if I'm a little indiscreet...but I don't know how to put it any other way.
No, that's ok...I'm only a B and I still need additional support, so anyone larger would definitely need more support.
What kind of sports bra do you like for swimming? Anyone C+ out there can answer too. I used to be a C cup prior to my baby....I am looking for a very supportive bra that doesn't create more drag in the water. Thx.

I had the same questions before my first tri. Being over 40 and having 3 kids, I really needed some extra support. After a lot of searching and trying on endless styles, I opted for a pair of tri shorts (with a chamois not thick padding) and a Nike sports bra - the longer style. It worked really well and you'll be able to throw on a tee shirt or tank top if you feel uncomfortable.

qb ant- thx, sounds like a good plan. i guess i better decide soon, as event is 4/2!
I've tried several different tri-suits, and needed sport bra with all of them. Since the suits tend to be pretty tight, you end up chafing, so I side with the other ladies on using tri-shorts, sport bra and shirt over! (I'm a DD cup). Also, be sure you do some brick workouts wearing what you plan to race in so you'll discover any hidden chafing areas your outfit may cause on race day!

regarding what to wear! I am VERY new, and am wondering what I can swim, bike and run in that will be supportive enough up top. Are there bathing suits out there designed for the larger breasted women, that are supportive enough to run in?
please advise-thanks
