So, my battery died this week, and I use my watch a lot, obviously. I need to get it replaced and was just wondering where the best places to go for this are? Would any watch place do, or are there specific places? Thanks in advance

What kind of watch is it? Polar watches have to be done by Polar (to keep any warranty) , you send it in, and they change it, and send it back. Nike (watches and I believe HRM as well) is the same, but they charge as much as what I paid for the watch so I just bought the battery on ebay and took my chances by having my husband change it since the local watch place would not change it. Have not had a problem. Guess my answer depends on:
Brand
Cost of replacement vs cost of having battery changed.

oh and if its Polar, there is a form you download on their website to fill out so they know what to do, and you just send it in with the watch. I got mine back pretty quickly compared to the time they quoted.

I took mine to the Jewelry/Watch Fix-it place at my local mall. 10 minutes and about $15 later I had a fresh battery and was ready to go! No problems for me, I'm not concerned about warranty.

if it's a timex ironman, you need to go to a jeweler or watch place at the mall. should be between $10 and $15

well...it's a sigma sport, but I think I'll try the jewelry store route if no one has a specific suggestion for this brand. I'm not terribly concerned with warranty either...HRMs aren't worth that much to begin with

For future reference, you might want to look at HRM's that you can replace the battery yourself. Might save you the money in the long run. I've been using the Suunto T3 for the past couple years, and since I use my HRM everyday, I've had to change batteries in both the strap unit and watch at least twice per year. All I have to do is go to the store and buy the battery, and with a coin, I just have to turn the case and wahla...it's good to go. I'm currently waiting for the release of the Garmin Forerunner 405. That model has a rechargeable lithium battery that's supposed to last 10 years. It's supposed to be released sometime at the end of July.

I started competing in triathlons 2 years ago and fell in love with the sport. Because heart disease runs in both sides of my family, I figured that training and competing in tris will help delay the inevitable.

I had the jewelry store replace my Polar battery last year since the warranty had expired, and the next time I went in the pool with it the watch broke. So instead of paying for shipping and the $12 service charge and missing my HRM for 10 days I had to go out and buy a new one.

Ya I had Batteries Plus change the battery in my Polar - Big mistake - I think they finessed it with a hammer. I ended up buying a Garmin after that.

I did the same thing with my Polar, brought it to the jeweler, they changed the battery, didnt reinstall the seal properly, wore the watch the next morning in the pool and --glug glug, it filled with water. Sent it in to Polar and, surprise surprise, I needed a new watch. So, with Polar, although a great watch, be wary of the need to send it in to Polar to get the battery changed (BTW, I think this only applies to the watch battery and not the battery in the HRM transmitter).
