actually if you have to walk then you have to walk. It takes time to build up your endurance and fitness levels in the lower zones. I still walk when I hit hills if I'm trying to stay in my zone. It can be frustrating and you feel like your not working, but believe me it will pay off in the long run.
You have to re-teach your body to perform better with less energy output if you want to go for the longer distances eventually.
if you haven't already, read through the heart rate training section for more tips and insight:

I have the same problem I can swim and bike and have to work to get to lactate threashold but when I run I am in or above that zone fast. Whats weard is I can keep up the pace and distance without extreme fatigue. However being my size (5'9" 195)Running is my hardest event. I have just learned to train at a higher heart rate when I am running. My concern is I am in the aerobic training part of my periodization and I hope I am getting the benefit I need to.

How did you figure out your training zones? I usually train with a higher heart rate than anyone I know and it is multiple field tests and indoor VO2 tests that have proved that this is the way my body works.

I know this will probably sound like a rookie question, but hey, I'm a newbie. Can you folks recommend a heart rate monitor (that will not break the bank!) that does a good job?
Polar S150: http://www.trifuel.com/gear/product/151.php pretty good from what I hear for the price. Probably the next one I'll invest in. There are others listed here: http://www.trifuel.com/gear/Accessories/Heart_Rate_Monitors/, the 210 is also good but a bit more expensive.
Here is my opinion, I usualy speak french so forgive me if I do mistakes...
When you concentrate on being in a zone, your heart rate will always be upper than usual. Make the test: try to think to something else, imagine you're winning 1 million dolard and what you would do with it and then look at your heart rate, it will probably drop down about 10bpm.
If your too focus on keeping your heart rate in the right zone, the stress that it demand will increase your heartrate.

I just started training with a heart rate monitor and am totally confused. I figured out my training zone and ran on the treadmill keeping my heart rate in that zone. The trouble is, I had to keep slowing down to stay in the zone - any slower and I would be walking. Am I doing something wrong or have I miscalculated?
