training vs racing shoes
wow! i've only got one pair of shoes for my bike...
100% road bike shoes. You could try training in road shoes and having tri shoes for tri racing, but I've found tri lack a good fit. That velcro on top makes them too loose and I feel I loose a bit of power on the up-stroke. Plus, I have a hard enough time keeping up with two pair of shoes (bike + run), I don't want to add to the chaos by adding another pair or cycling shoes. On that note, I know some racers like to pre-clip-in their tri shoes on the bike, then soft-peddle out of T2 and slide their foot in during the first kilo on the bike. I'm not even going to try that. I'd be that guy who wrecks hard out of T2 and takes out 10 people.

I have my road shoes on my road bike, and my tri shoes on my tri bike....and my mountain shoes for my other bikes. They pretty much never get unclipped, unless i need to lube the cleats.
I train in a bike shoe and race in a tri shoe primarily because I want to keep the tri shoes in good shape.

I train in nice road shoes b/c they're more comfortable and fit better (Specialized S-works). I also have a pair of rain shoes (Specialized Comp). I use the tri shoes (Specialized Trivent) once in a while, but they just don't fit anywhere near as well as a road shoe. I'd probably use my road shoes if I raced a HIM where the time on the bike with better shoes would outweigh the extra time of getting the shoes on.

Not fast enough.
I'm the exact opposite, my road bike shoes are not nearly as comfortable as my tri shoes, Shimano TR-50. I'm considering another pair for training. The funny thing is the road shoe, another Shimano, looks very similar but it just doesn't fit as well.

My Tri shoes - Specialized Trivent - are way more comfortable than my road shoes.
Shoes (like finding a good saddle) are very personalized - gotta find what works for you.

Do most of you train in your race/tri specific shoe or do you train in a more bike specific shoe and race in a more ventillated tri shoe? Hope I made, like sense :)
