shoulder troubles anyone?
Completely demolished my left shoulder 15 years ago and took 3 surgeries and 12 months of painfull rehabilitation. Was told that I wouldnt be able to get a full extension above my head.
I average about 7500 yds a week now with full fange of motion, but unless I warm up for at least 15 minutes and stretch before doing any hard sets, I pay for it for with shoulder stiffness and missed swim sessions.
Thanks to swimming and a careful warm up routine, I have now a full extension above my head, but my wife hates the sounds it makes when I stretch in the morning.......
good to know. I had mine fully rebuilt, including clavicle resection, in 2005, six months of nada and six months of rehab. it sublexes, and is stiff after any 3000yd day, but I'm hoping that as I get stronger that will all stop. stiffness is ok, sublexing is less than desirable.

I had a Bankart repair done for a torn labrum in 2001. This was when I did more contact sports and little to no swimming. 2 years ago, during my last ironman summer, I would sometimes feel some strong twinges during long swim workouts. I would take that as my sign to wrap up for the day and would have some stiffness afterwards. I'm logging 9 to 10k a week swimming now with no issues. Focusing on good swim form (e.g., high elbows, no crossing the midleine, etc.) helps a lot.
My doc told me when I got the surgery that I was virtually certain to develop arthritis at some point. So far so good on that score, but I know it won't last forever.
I first dislocated my shoulder when I was 16 in the middle of one of my growth spurts. I have since dislocated it 8 more times, mainly from bodysurfing. I dislocated it most recently 6 months ago and definitely need surgery. However, I am still swimming about 4K a week. As long as I really focus on good form and watch the way my hand enters the water (not starting my stroke right on the surface but gliding my hand in) then I'm okay. My shoulder will also occassionally get tired/sore after a long bike ride.

Any of y'all swimming long distances after shoulder reconstruction?
