Hey everyone! I was refered to this site from an IM friend of mine.

I have been a runner since high school (36 now) and decided to start marathons last year - New Orleans and Chicago. I have Country Music and Marine Corp lined up for 2005.

I have thought about tris for several years. I have been a spin instructor for a while, but didn't own a real bike. I decided it was time, so this Christmas I asked everyone to help fund this expensive purchase. I am now fired up to hit the road on either my Trek or running. Swimming is my least favorite, but it is coming along with some coaching.

I have 4 tris scheduled in May, June and July (between marathons). They are a series through GA state parks http://www.tribluesky.com/.

I am happily married with three children - Erin 9, Rylie 7 and Ben almost 4. They are all very supportive of my obsession with fitness....I am a three time cancer survivor. In 1998, 2002 and this past Oct, I have had a liposarcoma in my right lower abdomin. Surgeries and radiation have not been able to stop it, but my fitness level helps in many ways. Mentally I need to do this. Recovery time is shortened by being physically and emtionally ready to fight. Finally, I am at risk for circulation issues in my right leg, so keeping myself very fit helps keep those issues in check.

Sorry to be so heavy in my intro, but I like to share my drive and sometimes I can help others through times like mine. I welcome you all to contact me anytime!

I look forward to gaining a lot of knowledge and support from you all.

Thanks - Brian

Hey

Welcome BrianB. You are truly an inspiration. You never know, soon you may have three little training partners to make sure you are not slacking! This site is fantastic for advice and there are plenty of swimming tips in here, i know i have found many of the articles and forums very useful. Welcome again, and happy tri-ing.

Brian, stay active. The foundation of this sport is built on ....FUN. The techniques and finer points all take care of themselves over time when you get hooked on the fun of the sport. Good peeps, too.

By the way, where in atl do you think you'll be training? I'm in Suwanee.

Chris

Chris,

I train and teach spin at the LA Fitness Johns Creek on 141. I have the Mon/Wed 5:45 am classes. I am there between 5-7:15am Mon-Fri (only time I can fit it in).

On the weekends, I run and bike in the N Alpharetta area. Beautiful horse farms and light traffic make it a great place for the long mileage.

I would be happy to get together to run/bike. Please let me know.....Brian

I know where you're talking about. I'm real close by. I, too, have a 40+ hrs/wk job and even more important is my big family, you can appreciate this. So, I do alot of solo stuff, real early, so it doesn't interfere with bigger priorities. Needless to say, I'm always looking for a fellow trigeek to ride or run with. I'm sure we could find a occassional day to train, if our schedules will mesh.

See ya around,
Chris

I am a marathoner too...I shoot for 2 a year. Boston in the spring and then a smaller one in the fall. I'll also do 3-4 half thons and some shorter tune-up races. I just got my road bike this past summer! I have a lot of work to do in the swimming and the cycling arenas...But the challenge is what it is all about, right?
Speaking of challenge, your attitude is simply awesome and I have such respect for you! My husband and I also have 3 children and he has dealt with cancer 3 times since 1983. He is my hero...
Welcome to the forum! You have a tough race year laid out already...I have a June duathlon and a July sprint tri on tap. It will be fun to compare notes...

We certainly have a lot of similarities - good and not so good ones! I really appreciate you responding back and I definitely would like to compare notes as we race.

Country Music Marathon is first for me this year - April 30th, so I'll let you know how it goes. Trying to break the 4 hour mark. I bonked in New Orleans (marathon newbie mistakes) and ITB kept me conservative in Chicago at a 4:02. I am very confident that I can do it. You must have run a sub4 to qualify for Boston in your age group!!

You deserve the same heroic comments as your husband. I actually think it is harder emotionally for the spouse to handle cancer because they can't physically do anything to take the pain away. Their love and support is what gets us through to the other side to fight again!

Keep racing and tell your husband I said 'hey' from another survivor!
