Not the weekend for ultras - Cayman had a DNF as well - Guess those ultras aren't easy!
Sorry for the rough day.

I feel your pain, I went after my first 50 miler this weekend on a 10 mile loop. The trail conditions were terrible and the water was freezing, but the worst part was I didn't follow my plan. I went out too hard on my second loop and ending up having my knees give out on me. Too fast on the downhills, who would have thought.
I had to call it quits at the 50k mark with plenty of gas in the tank, but my knees weren't working anymore.

Agreed, not the weekend for ultras for sure

Rough day...sure, but the beauty of 24 hour races...no DNF's. The races are go as you please, so whatever distance you finish is your distance. Some folks showed up just to run a Marathon (7 laps) Others to hit 50k, others 50 miles. One guy, wanted to PR at 100k, others to hit 100 miles or 24 hours even though they might only do 40 miles...I even came home with a plaque for finishing 50 miles!
Ultras...so laid back and so inclusive.

Great cause, great effort. Keep working those blisters, next time they'll be callouses ;)

They WERE callouses! Maybe fire walking will toughen them up.

I would bet $ that next year you go 24 hours straight and run 100 miles plus.

Hey, CONGRATS on finishing Anton ;) I'm not sure I could handle that 24-hour thing: keep moving in a 3.-something mile loop, no aid stations, no helpers, for 24-hours (It reminds me of a dream I had before IM Austria). THAT would be mentally tough. And I'm sure, had you two spare feet in tow (get it??), you would have rocked that 24-hours!

I'm finding these UR's are pretty tough on the ol feet. Personally, I think I have a stress fracture in my right foot from Umstead. So, if you'd like to recover in the sun, come on down and join me and Tamara on the beach for a couple of R&R weeks!!
