Hi
I'm hoping to get some suggestions for where to stay for Kona? I don't care if I have to drive 30 minutes or so to get to the festival area. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Jon

We stayed at the Outrigger thats about 4-5miles South ? of the village on Alli drive, parking is easy,, and you can take the upper road to avoid the village traffic during the 2 3 days before the race (highway 11)..the hotel is where alot of the interviews are held, decent place over all, good snorkeling /rough water swimming at the hotel, can run part of the course back up to the village or can run south towards Keahou bay ( hills) , the village has a Walmart and local supermarket..and of course a Starbucks, I always stock up from the local supermkt rather than drop big $$ on eating out every day, one of my best vacations ever..

I live in Kona and the best place to be to avoid having to drive and deal with the horrible traffic is the Outrigger. Its very convenient. If you go to any of the more resorty areas, the Hilton, Mauna Lani or any of those up north, it is quite a drive to get down into Kona and traffic that time of year is horrendous.

I would check out VRBO.com. It is a site where people that own property can rent out their home, apartment, condo, etc. when they are using it. I stayed in a 2 bedroom house in a private neighborhood last year during the ironman for 9 nights and it cost me like $1500 or something like that. I was about 2 miles from the Kona pier and because we had a kitchen we could hit the grocery store like an earlier poster said. The place was really nice. It was an acre lot and was gated and had a hot tub. If I go again this year I am going to try and book the same place.
