Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.
See? See? What did I tell ya? You could do it! And you did. You should be very proud. Great report and that's not a bilster...you can still tell it's a toe!

Haha! The funny thing about that sucker is that I didn't even feel it while I was running...I guess that's a good thing. I've had to pop it four times though...I hope today was the last! Ewww...! Ultra running has done some funky stuff to my little feet.
Anyway, thank you for the good words! It was tough in many ways, but I'm hooked...thanks to Anton and other UR's like him here in FL. My next journey will be up to Vermont for a 100K in July, but I'm not quite ready to think about THAT yet!

Way to go. I don't know what was more impressive, the fact that you finished or the size of the blister on your toe. Great job and good luck at the next one.
Congratulations!! Welcome to the ultrarunning club. We're not the smartest group in the world, but we can run a long ways!
"Alex said to me, “Andrea, how important is a sub-eleven hour finish to you?“ I flatly said, “Well….not that important. Why?” He calculated that if we pushed a bit, running around 12 mph, we could finish under eleven hours."
That must be 12 min/mile right? 12 mph would be one hell of a kick! :-P
Congrats on the race, thats quite an accomplishment. I get a tiny red spot on my toe and it bothers me, but you kept going while that blister grew? Amazing.
Also, that must be a tough race since its all on 12.5 mile loops. I guess it makes it safer, but I would hate to be at the "finish" after 37.5 or 87.5 miles and then have to head back out again. It's just a mental game, but I think doing loops would make it harder.
Good going on you accomplishment!
I was watching your pictures at work and had a group of people come by my desk to show your cool toe. An owie toe but it looked cool to me!
Nice job again!
Apparently I have an infamous toe now :) Still looks pretty bad, but I guess that's my trophy for running 50 miles.
And Sully- are you a mathematician or what? You've done more calculating in one paragraph than I do in a year! haha Either way, I could not have imagined going out for four more loops...but then again, my mind was set for 50. I didn't think I'd like so many loops, but it did give me something to look forward to ...seeing my husband, fresh clothes, food, shelter, etc....you know, the basics of life.
I've heard that the first 50 are physical and the second 50 are mental...but I think all UR's are *mental,* if you know what I mean... :)

You Rock! Nice work Star! I remember reading through some of your posts when you were just considering trying some ultra running. Now look at you! You're a legitimate ultra veteran. I am fully impressed. Thanks for the report. Happy recovery!

I did it -- I finished my first 50-mile run at Umstead Park in Raleigh, North Carolina on Saturday! It was fun and challenging and painful...and quite an experience. You can check out my race report and race pix on my Blog: http://star.trifuel.net.
I'm enjoying the recovery time, but will be back out there soon.....
