Hey everyone!

i was looking around for tri forums and i decided to join this one. Seems to be a nice and friendly one! I am new to tri. I did my first race last fall, and it was a sprint. I live in MI so its pretty hard to train right now because of the weather, motivation falling under the same hat.. But im still kind of hanging in there and really looking forward to the new season!! Glad to meet all of you..

I am new to this forum and new to the triathlon too. I am from a distance runner background. My cycling needs work and my swimming needs major renovations, but I am chipping away at it. :p
The forumites here are very supportive and informative.
Welcome!

Hi,

I have a biking background and I have been running quite a bit in the last few years, but swim. eh. NEEDS WORK!! i can make it, but I'm slow. Its hard to learn techniques by myself, and i dont think I can afford a coach right now. I have been swimming with a buddy of mine (he's pretty good) but we cant always meet up, because 5 or 6 am is sometimes difficult, especially now that its cold..

I am glad that there are lots of other beginner triathletes out there as well! Great support!! Thanks

Hey

Welcome. You're right about this forum, its great, so much good advice and articles. I am new to triathlon as well. Opposite to you my swim is probably my strongest leg, and the bike my weakest. What sort of biking background do you come from? If theres any advice you can give to a beginner biker - would be grateful :)

Well i used to mountain bike a LOT.. I think that helped me build up my base, at least as far as muscular goes. The endurance came with time, and as i started riding more road (I used to hate road biking until I was introduced to tri, which was actually the first time I got on a road bike), it increased my endurance bigtime. My biggest problem about swimming is that I am slow, and I still get a little bit of water in my mouth once in a while.. any tips?? (besides practice!! )

As far as biking tips.. hmm.. just keep riding.. one thing that I was taught is to keep the knees in as much as possible (pretty much rub the frame).. That way its easier on certain parts of your leg. I have been on the trainer most of this winter, and 1.5 hours on that I would say equals to about 3 hours on the road... It all depends on what you would like to know about biking.. I am no pro, but I am to glad to help if i can, and I am also glad to hear anythign about swimming!! :)
