Congratulations on your first off road tri! I did my first 2 weekends ago at Xterra Real near Sacramento and I think I'm hooked for many more xterra's. Do you or your fiance have any more planned this year? Maybe Xterra West in temecula?
"If one can stick to the training throughout many long years, that willpower is no longer a problem. It's Raining? That doesn't matter. I am tired? That's beside the point. It's simply just that I have to."

Thanks! Yeah, we are looking at the Xterra in Temecula. We would have looked at the Big Blue at Castaic, but I will be in Arizona cheering at IMAZ for that one.
We are thinking of focusing a bit more on these in the future, but we shall see. We both really like mtn biking.
Congrats. Sounds like a jammed packed weekend. I have my first off road tri planned for later this year and can't wait.
Congrats on the PR! Sounds like you had a fun weekend.

Well it was definitely a busy racing weekend! Got in a 5k (PR!) Saturday, and then my first ever mountain bike tri on Sunday.
Saturday's race was uneventful, but fun as it ends on the race track hours before the Santa Anita Derby (last in the path to the Kentucky Derby) runs. Stats for the day: 23:44 (7:38 pace) — 282/3015 overall, 43/1505 women, 8/171 W25-29 — my watch time was 23:19, 7:21 pace
Sunday I have more to say about as it was my first off-road tri, and it's all written up over on my blog. Here are the pics and summary though:
The car packed the night before, we made it off to the race nice and early. We did a short warm up, and generally were excited and (I was) chatty. Soon it was time, and Mike's wave (first of two waves) was off! My wave was delayed, and then delayed again... so we didn't start til about 40 minutes after them. And with a whole 30 second warning, I wasn't ready for it at the moment. A quick wipe of the fog in my goggles, over my eyes, and it was time so I just went. Jumped in, found my stroke, and enjoyed a very nice swim.
Out of the water pretty well for me (the race guy said I was about 5th or so out of T1) and onto the bike! It was a fun loop that we did twice (dismounting and running through TA between the loops). One technical climb that I ended up walking most of on both loops (once off the bike on it I couldn't get going again). But the rest was fire roads, although very overgrown with all the rain we've had this year! I passed a couple women, and got passed by a number. Since Mike had such a head start, he was able to get a pic of me finishing the bike.
Then off for the run! With my 5k PR being more of a focus this weekend (and this race a last minute, day of registration for me) I knew it was going to hurt so my plan was to enjoy. Turns out my competative side wasn't so excited about that, and once I was in sight of others I just had to go a bit harder. It paid off and I passed a number of women on the run, and my trail running seems to have paid off as well as I got some compliments on my footing ease. Mike got a picture of me near the end there, too:
And the stats for my second race: 2:31:31 — 53/112 overall, 6/21 women, 2/5 W25-29 (although these aren't final yet)
(the full report is on my blog)
Turns out Lisa (vollenda, who hasn't been around here in a while) was at the race taking pictures and enjoying it! I didn't see her, but did get some emails with her today which was nice. And I did hear her cheer for me and wonder who it was :)
