First race of the season
Saturday, April 5th.....
Chesebro Half Marathon (Great Race of Agoura Hills) mostly trail half-marathon. It was a lot of fun. Slowest time ever, but well worth it, just for the fun of being out in the hills. Lucy injured her knee a bit taking a fall over some rocks so we gimped in somewhere around 2:55. We had walked a lot around some of the marshy parts, and up some pretty nasty narrow trail sections of the race. I probably could have kept running the last 4 miles or so and got a decent time, but I decided to stay with her and just walk most of the last 2 or 3 miles. I figured... this isn't going to be a PR. It's been slow going. Why ditch the lady? We were there to enjoy it, and we had a nice time walking to the finish.
We probably ran in the last half-mile, and she's doing better now after some ice and rest. :) Time to start ramping it up for the Marathon in June.
Xterra Real in Granite Bay
My first off road race triathlon. The water was an icy 49-50 degrees and it for sure took my breath away a little the first 100-200 yards. I settled in to by far the worst swim of all my triathlons ( I didnt give myself enough time to acclimate to the water prior to the start) and it really cost me. Plus during the first 200 yards I was watching (as I took breaths) atleast 20-30 people running on the shore along side maybe 50 yards to my right in about knee high water, kind of dissapointing but what are you going to do?
The bike went well, I was so stoked to be riding some awesome hard packed single and double track I forgot I was racing at a few points in the race, and the bike turned out to be my strongest split of the race. We did 2 8 mile loops, about halfway thru the first loop I was passing someone and went into one of the mud "pits" too fast and didnt pull up quick enough and went over the bars but missed the deep part of the mud pit, got up quick and I think the adrenaline totally pushed me through the remainder of the bike. There was also some deep sand pits but the 29er handled all of the boulder/mud/sand obstacles like a champ.
The run was good and felt strong at the beginning which was awesome. I only had 3 people pass me on the run, and those were the only 3 people I saw. It was a fun race for sure and very very well organized. I will be doing 2 more xterra's atleast this year and really looking forward to getting alot better.
here are my race times
0:18:00 Swim .5 mile
1:25:22 Bike 18 mile
0:34:22 Run 4 mile
2:17:44 Total
Those splits include transitions too.
I placed 59th/182 overall, 4/5 AG
"If one can stick to the training throughout many long years, that willpower is no longer a problem. It's Raining? That doesn't matter. I am tired? That's beside the point. It's simply just that I have to."

I forget places have weather! My first tri for the season was Feb 10th, and my first race was Jan 20th (50k). I've already done a second running race (5k 4/5/08) and second tri (Renegade off-road 4/6/08) and the season is off to a great start! The year of no ironman is shaping up to be faster, a bit more racing, and a lot of fun!

After breaking my foot last year, I'm easing into it.
Have a 4 mile off road run next weekend and then a 5K trail run with my little brother after that.
I'm going up against Macca, Chris Lieto, and ABC's The Bachelor (Andy Baldwin) in the South Beach Triathlon April 13th. Okay, its more like I'm competing in this event and they will be there competing in the professional division. A guy can dream right? If my IT band is good for the run I think this will be an awesome start to the season.
My only 5k last year was 24:09. This year I did a 5k in 20:01, and 21:01. I'm happy with the short distance improvement.
My first marathon ever is in 4 weeks, and my first olympic tri of the season is in 8 weeks. I can't wait to see how I do at the triathlon. There's a good chance I'll knock 30 min off my one and only previous olympic triathlon.

Give 'em hell, tbt!
Small 5k this past weekend with a decent sized hill in the middle mile, 21:20 was good enough to get me 5th place overall, so I'll take it. Plus I was able to run a leisurely 4.5 miles immediately afterward.
Ran the Caesar Rodney 1/2 marathon back in March as a Boston tune-up and ran a 1:27. Pretty excited to set a course PR on a windy frigid day. Things are all set for Boston and my plans to run a relaxed race and enjoy the course. Then it is a week of rest and tri training starts for real.
Miami International Triathlon (Olympic) on March 16th. I finished in 2:30. I was hoping to be closer to 2:20, but I'm not really complaining. My next race is the Florida HIM on May 18th.

Well its about that time for most of us i think, so heres a place to tell us how your first race went. Be it a ride, run, swim, tri, or whatever else. Tell us how you started things off this year.
For me it was the martian half marathon yesterday morning. It was a balmy 45 degrees, beautifully sunny, and a nice small turnout for the race so it had a little race kind of feel. I ran a 2:08:58, putting me at about a 9.8min mile. Not as fast as id like to be, but this is the same pace that I ran a mere 10k at last july, so im happy to see my progress. It was a great way to kick things off and get back in the swing of things, even if it did cause an inch long blood blister on my foot. Time to switch shoes again!
How are everyone else's first events of the spring going?
