belgium cycling race wreck
Ya, I saw that - quite a crash.
Did you hear the extent of injuries - or did he continue?

It was the Tour of Flemming from Belgium. What an incredible crash. Definitely the gnarliest solo wreck I've ever seen. I watched it on VS. yesterday (Cyclism Sunday). It was so bad that his front tire looked like Pac-Man after all was said and done. I was doing my taxes at the time, so I wasn't 100% tuned in, but I swear I heard Phill Liggett say that his team support car was bringing him another bike so he could finish the race. I really hope this video is posted on the 'net very soon.
ugh I hope my tivo caught this one if it did i'll rip that part on put it on youtube for you all to watch.

I saw that too--it was the Tour of Flanders. It really looked like he just wasn't paying attention to the road, because there was plenty of time to see the curb coming and plenty of room for him to move over and avoid it. Here's hoping the guy was OK, because the crash looked nasty.
Versus has it on their web site. www.versus.com/sports
That had to leave a mark.
OUCH!!!!!!!!!!

That looked painful!
damn. It's crazy how his bike frame just flew like it was nothing. That had to be a lot of force. Man, physics will kick your ass if you're not careful.
AT LAST! Folks around here showing interest in a race other than "The Tour" and for cyclists other than LA! ;)
Ronde De Flanderen , The Tour of Flanders. In It's 92 year. Had the pleasure of seeing it (well, part of it) in 1985....Mud, sweat, blood, pain, frustration, joy..all in one day. Ya just have to love the spring classics.
Some great pics over at www.pezcyclingnews.com

There was mention he was calling for assistance and maybe looking down at his drive train. then looked up and snap. Ridiculous. And I just watch ESPN top 10 weekend highlights which includes 5 baseballs getting caught and a hockey puck getting slapped, but no mention of a crazy crash like that or the fact that Stijn pretty much pushed the pace of that race for 160 miles and held on for the win. Crazy riding.

From cyclingnews.com:
Saunier Duval-Scott rider Ángel "Litu" Gómez was one of the worst off, suffering a horrific crash with 60 kilometres to go. The Spaniard hit a traffic island and crashed dramatically. He was taken to a hospital in Oudenaarde, where X-rays showed he had fractured his right radius. He was expected to undergo surgery to repair the fracture Sunday night.
yeah, cyclism sundays is becoming one of my favorite things ever.........did anyone see that 13year old girl finish the xterra worlds

I just saw the video of the crash and that was one of the worst I have ever seen.
I saw the end of the race on Sunday. Remarkable effort by Stijn. More coverage of the chase group and why nobody was able or willing to make a move would have been nice.
Paris-Roubaix on April 20.

The Spring Classics is my favorite time of the year. This is when we see the really strong men of cycling perform incredible feats! Before Paris-Roubaix, remember that Gent - Wevelgem is tomorrow!

i've never seen more than a 30 second clip of roubaix so im super pumped about it......any race that had so many bikes named after it must be stinkin' bad

Roubaix is on VS on the 20th. Is there a way to view Gent-Wevelgem online?

I'm such a cycling dweeb that I follow the races at work via the "live coverage" at cyclingnews.com. This "live coverage" consists of ascii page updates describing the action as it unfolds. It's probably not of interest unless you're a hard core enthusiast (but, on the other hand, no one gets their panties in a bunch over this at work, while streaming video would get me unwanted attention pretty quickly). If there's something better than this "coverage" I'm not aware of it (but, like I mentioned, this is all that I can get away with at work).

did anyone see that guy hit the curb in the tour of (flemming)?.....this week...he hit hard enough to snap his forks and take the wheel clean off the bike......i feel for that dude
