Rentals
Below are a few ideas. I have "been there." I'm a thorough "researcher" when it comes to stuff like this and it sounds like you are also.
- If you know of someone (a friend or a friend of a friend) who is about your size, you could ask them if you can borrow their wetsuit to try out.
- See if there are any triathlon clubs in the Lubbock area and ask around there. Perhaps someone would let you borrow or rent theirs or try theirs for free. Or they might be able to provide some other options locally.
- If you DO rent a wetsuit find out what brand it is and before renting it, then call and talk to a rep from that company/manufacturer. They often know best how to size you. You can provide specifics in terms of your body-type and get their advice. Also, call or email that wetsuit rental company you're considering and talk to them. They are used to fitting people and usually know their product pretty well. Heck, you might even call a few triathlon specific stores who sell the brand and get their opinion. I like to get as many opinions as possible and often threads/patterns will begin to emerge.
- As you mentioned, getting a used one can be a great idea IF you know what you like and know what your after. That's what I did and saved at least $100 when I finally made the decision to purchase. Hope this helps!
