Swimming in a Tri-Top???

I am going to be entering my first sprint triathlon next month and I have some tri shorts and a tri top. My question is whether it is easier to swim in my top or just throw it on after the swim? I read somewhere that someone suggested you tuck your tri top into your shorts for the swim.

I'd say swim with it. It will be a pain trying to put it on when you're all wet

I would definitely leave it on for the swim. When you are wet, it is a pain to get on. Tri tops are usually fairly snug fitting so there is no real need to tuck it in in my opinion.

depends on what gender you are!!,,,
serious side , are you wearing a wetsuit? if you expect it to be cold then i would put the shirt on after the swim as it will give you just a little warmth, other wise practice both before the actual race, I perfer no shirt on under my wetsuit, although I do wear my HRM strap , I know most of the pros wear everything under their wetsuits, ,, if you are not wearing a wetsuit then make sure your shirt is snug fitting in general , experiment and do a couple "practice" race condition transitions , ( swim hard, come out of the water running to your bike change then ride off, see what works best for you.. your gear layout at T1 can be a huge plus or major headache.. so practice

i say wear the tri shirt underneath, it dries quickly enough to worth the time savings in T1

Are you even wearing a wetsuit? If not, you might consider not wearing a top at all for a sprint. I wore a top in an Olympic last month and it felt great. The only reason I wore it was to keep the sun off of me during the bike and run. Like a few people said, make sure it's really tight on you. Mine is tight and short to the point where I couldn't tuck it in even if I wanted to.

Shouldn't you guys be out training or something :-) I would be, but my bike's in the shop.

Back on topic: just wear it. That's what I plan on doing and seems to be the consensus anyway.

What are your thoughts about wearing it during a pool sprint?? It seems like it would be quite a drag.. I was thinking of just wearing a swimsuit and throwing on shorts and a jacket of some kind in T1. (It's cold here in MT!)

Set goals...... but be here now. Enjoy the ride to the finish line.
