70.3 Florida run question
Road shoe definitely, the off road is hard grass/dirt road - nothing like trail running. Your going to be more worried about melting in the heat than shoe traction anyways.
I also heard that the dirt part of the run really changes your shoe color to a lovely shade of grey. Should we bring are almost worn out pair of running shoes that could stand up to a half, then throw them away ?
I have a question for everyone. I'm doing this race as well and I don't really have time to train for it properly. I'm traveling the entire month of April and won't have much time for training at all. I will have about 8 or 9 days throughout the entire month to train, and the days are sporadic. I've done an Olympic this year and I'm in fairly good shape. My goal is simply to finish this race and have fun. The swim will not be a problem. It's the bike/run portion that I'm worried about. My thinking is that I should really take it easy on the bike, and feel good during the run. I'm a much better runner than a cyclist anyway. Therefore, I think I should be spending most of my training time getting in even better running shape so that 13.1 mile run won't be such a grind. I'll blow out the swim, take it easy on the bike and finish strong on the run. Do you guys agree or disagree with this?
Wear a standard running shoe. The terrain does not call for a trail shoe at all. Its dirt and grass.
As far as the old shoe, as long as its still a decent shoe that wont kill youre legs. Its just light dirt, its comes right out with a gentle washing.
AGFL- put time in on the bike. Train your weakness, race your strength. All the run training in the world wont help you a whole lot if your legs are shot from not being used to a decent effort for 56 miles.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
Thanks for your input Triguy. I'll try to get a couple of long rides in. Either way, I think it's going to be a tough race for me with so few training days.

Hi all. Some of you have already done the run for the 70.3 in May at Disney in Florida. I've read some other race reports on this but am curious about something. I understand the run is a mixed pavement/off road run. Having run it yourselves, would you consider using a Performance Trail shoe instead of say a Performance Trainer/Race shoe?
thanks all.
cheers
